Third-party liability
- Damage to other vehicles
- Injury to third parties
- Compulsory from registration onwards
A motorcycle stands still for half the year and is at its most vulnerable during that period. That makes suspension and storage more important for the premium than they are on a car.

Motorcycle insurance requires third-party liability cover as soon as the registration is in your name. Alongside that you choose third-party, fire and theft: theft, fire, storm and glass — or comprehensive cover, under which damage caused by your own fault is paid for as well.
Theft is the dominant risk on motorcycles. Insurers therefore almost always require an an ART-approved lock, often of a particular category, and sometimes a tracker on higher values. Without that lock, theft cover is worthless.
What people consistently forget: motorcycle clothing and helmet are not covered by motorcycle insurance and usually not by home contents insurance either once you are on the road. After a fall that easily means a suit, boots, gloves and helmet you have to buy again.
We compare your motorcycle insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
If you do not ride in winter, you can suspend the registration with the RDW (the Dutch vehicle authority). The third-party liability obligation then lapses and you pay no road tax. But the risk of fire and theft in storage remains; storage cover keeps precisely those two covered. Without it, your machine stands uninsured in the shed all winter.
Virtually every insurer requires an ART-approved lock, often category 4 or higher, and on more expensive machines a tracker or locked storage as well. Keep the purchase receipt for the lock and both keys. When a claim is made they are the first thing asked for.
Motorcycle clothing does not fall under the own-damage cover for the machine. Some insurers offer an extension for clothing and helmet, sometimes only in combination with an accident in which the machine was damaged too. A complete suit plus helmet quickly comes to more than a thousand euros.
If your machine is more than fifteen or twenty-five years old, a youngtimer or classic policy with limited mileage can be considerably cheaper. For restored or sought-after models a valuation is essential. Without one you are paid market value, and that does not do justice to what has gone into it.
This is what people ask us most.
Yes, with the RDW. The third-party liability obligation then lapses and you pay no road tax. Fire and theft in storage do remain a risk. There is storage cover for that.
Almost always an ART-approved lock, usually category 4 or higher, and on more expensive machines a tracker as well. Keep the purchase receipt and both keys.
Not as standard. Some insurers offer an extension for it, sometimes only where the machine was damaged too. Ask about it expressly.
With many insurers you can, or they take them into account in the rating. They are recorded in Roy-data and cannot be used on two vehicles at once.
Not under an ordinary policy. Circuit use and speed competitions are excluded everywhere. For touring days there are separate one-day policies.
On a new or valuable machine, and certainly where it is financed. Rule of thumb: once the own-damage premium over three years approaches the market value, it no longer pays.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
A selection. Which insurers appear in your comparison depends on your situation and the cover you choose.
