A Bonneville, a Speed Triple and a Tiger end up in three different corners at insurers, so with Triumph a premium at brand level tells you almost nothing.

Triumph covers three clearly different patterns of use: classic-looking models ridden mainly for short distances on fine days, sporting roadsters where power output determines the rating, and adventure tourers that cover long distances and trips abroad. Insurers look at type, power output and use, not at the make.
For the classic models it comes down to accessories, for the roadsters to power output combined with age and experience, and for the tourers to the territorial limits and what goes wrong on the road. So always ask for a premium on your specific type and year of manufacture.
If you travel abroad on the machine, check three things separately from the own-damage cover: where the policy applies, whether breakdown assistance is included, and whether luggage falls under another policy.
The structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.
Damage you cause to others with your motorcycle.
Theft, fire, storm and glass damage.
Including your own fault and a single-vehicle fall.
What is covered
| Situation | Third-party liability | Third-party, fire and theft | Comprehensive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Damage to another road user | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Theft with an approved lock | No | Yes | Yes |
| Fire or storm in storage | No | Yes | Yes |
| A single-vehicle fall with no other party | No | No | Yes |
| Motorcycle clothing and helmet | No | No | Sometimes |
| Track use and speed competitions | No | No | No |
This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Insurers classify machines by engine capacity and power output. Within the same make, one version can fall into a favourable class and another not. A quotation on the brand name is therefore useless for comparison. When applying, give the exact type, the version and the year of manufacture, and compare the outcome per insurer; the weight given to power output differs considerably between companies.
The countries where your insurance applies are shown on the green card. If you ride outside that area, for example towards the Balkans or Turkey, you need additional cover or have to buy insurance at the border. Check this for each trip and not just once, because the list changes. Riding on unpaved ground or off the public road is moreover often separately excluded.
Own-damage cover relates to the machine and the parts permanently fitted to it. What you carry in the panniers or bags is home contents or travel luggage and falls under another policy. Motorcycle clothing and helmet are not included as standard either. If in a fall you lose both the machine and the contents, those are two separate claims with possibly two different insurers.
If a technical fault leaves you at the roadside, that is not an own-damage claim. Recovery, transport to a repairer, the journey home and repatriation of the machine fall under a breakdown module or under separate assistance cover. On older machines insurers set an age limit for it. If you take it out, check whether it also applies outside the Netherlands and whether it works after a fall of your own as well.
Almost every insurer requires an ART-approved lock, often category 4 or higher, and for more expensive motorcycles a tracker or locked storage. Keep the purchase receipt for the lock and both keys. These are the first things asked for in a claim.
Motorcycle clothing does not fall under the own-damage cover for the motorcycle. Some insurers offer an extension, sometimes only in combination with an accident in which the motorcycle was also damaged. For a full suit plus helmet, the amount quickly exceeds a thousand euros.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
This is what people ask us most.
Because the classification follows from engine capacity and power output, not from the make. A classic-looking twin and a sporting roadster from the same make sit in different categories. So always ask for a premium on your exact type, version and year of manufacture, and compare it between insurers, because the weight given to power output differs per company.
Not automatically. The green card shows the countries where your insurance applies. Countries outside it call for additional cover or frontier insurance. Check this for each trip, because the list changes. Note also that riding off the public road, for example on unpaved ground or at off-road training, is usually separately excluded.
No. The motorcycle policy covers the machine and the parts permanently fitted. Luggage, camping gear and personal belongings fall under a travel or home contents policy. Motorcycle clothing and helmet are not included in own-damage cover as standard either. Some insurers offer an extension for that, sometimes only where the machine was damaged in the same incident.
Only if you take out that module. A technical fault is not an own-damage claim, so recovery, transport to a garage, accommodation and returning the machine fall under assistance. Check whether the cover also applies outside the Netherlands, whether there is an age limit for the machine and whether help after a fall of your own with no other party involved is included as well.
