Third-party liability
- Compulsory from registration onwards
- Damage to other vehicles
- Injury to third parties
Many riders stay with Yamaha for years but do change type, and it is precisely at such a change that mistakes arise around premium class, no-claims years and market value.

Yamaha supplies everything from light machines to superbike models, and insurers classify those by engine capacity and power output. So there is no such thing as a premium for the make. What this page covers is not the first policy, but what changes when your situation changes: a heavier type, a second machine alongside, or a machine now old enough for a different form of policy.
At each of those moments the same rule applies: cover does not follow automatically. Report a change of vehicle in advance, so that the new machine is on the policy from the first moment and the premium class is right.
Finally, on older models watch the distinction between damage caused by an event and damage caused by wear or deferred maintenance. The latter is insured nowhere, whatever form of cover you choose.
We compare your motorcycle insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
If you move from a middleweight to a superbike, the risk class changes and with it the premium and sometimes the underwriting. Report the change before you ride. A policy does not follow automatically to another registration. On a jump in power output, insurers also look at how long you have held the category A licence. A mid-term change can moreover produce a new security clause.
If you keep the old machine, you have two registrations and therefore two covers. Your no-claims years can only be linked to one vehicle at a time. The second policy starts at an entry step, or through a second-vehicle arrangement if the insurer has one. Both machines have to meet the security and storage requirements set, including the one that stands idle for most of the year.
From a certain age, insurers offer a youngtimer or enthusiasts' form with a limited annual mileage and requirements for storage. That can work out well, but the clause is binding: if you ride more than agreed, that shows from the odometer reading when a claim is made and the payment can be reduced. On sought-after versions it pays to have the value fixed rather than settling on market value.
Own-damage cover pays for damage caused by a sudden event, not for defects that arise gradually. A blown engine, a worn clutch, rust, corrosion and the consequences of deferred maintenance fall outside the cover everywhere, including under comprehensive. If a technical fault causes a fire, the fire damage itself can be covered while the defective part is not. Keep maintenance records.
Almost every insurer requires an ART-approved lock, often category 4 or higher, and for more expensive motorcycles a tracker or locked storage. Keep the purchase receipt for the lock and both keys. These are the first things asked for in a claim.
Motorcycle clothing does not fall under the own-damage cover for the motorcycle. Some insurers offer an extension, sometimes only in combination with an accident in which the motorcycle was also damaged. For a full suit plus helmet, the amount quickly exceeds a thousand euros.
This is what people ask us most.
Yes. The risk class follows from engine capacity and power output, so the premium changes and sometimes the underwriting too. Report the change before you use the new machine. A policy does not move automatically to another registration. On a big jump in power output the insurer also looks at how many years you have held the category A licence.
No. No-claims years can be linked to one vehicle at a time and are recorded in Roy-data. For the second machine you start at an entry step, unless your insurer has an arrangement for a second vehicle belonging to the same owner. Ask about that before you take out the second policy, because the difference in rate is considerable.
From the age the insurer applies, usually combined with a limited annual mileage and requirements for storage. That mileage agreement is binding and is checked against the odometer reading when a claim is made. On a sought-after version it is sensible to have the value fixed in advance, so that settlement does not come out at a low market value.
No. Own-damage cover is intended for damage caused by a sudden external event or by an insured occurrence, not for wear, corrosion or the consequences of deferred maintenance. That applies under comprehensive too. If a fault causes a fire, the fire damage can be covered while the part that caused the fire is not.
