Third-party liability
- Compulsory from registration onwards
- Damage to other vehicles
- Injury to third parties
On an Indian most damage does not happen at speed: a heavy touring cruiser that falls over while being manoeuvred at walking pace quickly costs more than an average collision.

You insure an Indian as a motor vehicle, with third-party liability as the minimum and above that third-party, fire and theft or comprehensive. The distinctive risk here lies in mass and size. When turning on a drive, pushing back on a slope or standing on loose gravel, a heavy tourer goes over slowly but completely, and that is damage with no other party involved.
What breaks then is precisely the expensive outer parts: panniers and their catches, screen, crash bars, mirrors, lighting and, on the touring models, the control display. Much of that is electrically or electronically connected, so repair is more than swapping a part.
Finally, bear in mind that the Dutch dealer and parts network for this make is smaller than for the high-volume brands. That feeds through into repair turnaround times and into the question of who may carry out the repair.
We compare your motorcycle insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Damage from the machine going over at walking pace or standing still is single-vehicle damage with no other party involved. Third-party, fire and theft does nothing about it. Only comprehensive pays. On a heavy cruiser this is a real scenario, even for experienced riders, because the weight is barely correctable at low speed. When weighing up a form of cover, take this pattern of loss into account and not only the riding risk on the road.
The touring models have adjustable screens, illuminated panniers, heated grips and an audio or control display. After a fall it is not only the visible part that is broken. The wiring and the control system have to be read out and sometimes recoded. Ask whether diagnostic and read-out costs fall under the own-damage cover, because that item is regularly overlooked at the damage assessment.
With a make that has a smaller dealer network, a specific body or electronic part can take weeks to arrive. Loss from downtime, replacement transport and hiring another machine are not included as standard in a motorcycle policy. If you want something arranged for that, it has to appear on the policy as a separate module. Also record whether repairs outside the insurer's network are permitted.
If you suspend the registration with the RDW (the Dutch vehicle authority), the duty to insure under Article 2 of the Dutch Motor Insurance Liability Act (WAM) and the vehicle tax lapse. The fire and theft risk in storage remains. For that you choose storage or suspension cover, with requirements for the space and the lock. Note what it does not include: damage from damp and corrosion, battery damage and other gradually occurring damage are excluded everywhere.
Almost every insurer requires an ART-approved lock, often category 4 or higher, and for more expensive motorcycles a tracker or locked storage. Keep the purchase receipt for the lock and both keys. These are the first things asked for in a claim.
Motorcycle clothing does not fall under the own-damage cover for the motorcycle. Some insurers offer an extension, sometimes only in combination with an accident in which the motorcycle was also damaged. For a full suit plus helmet, the amount quickly exceeds a thousand euros.
This is what people ask us most.
Only under comprehensive. There is no other party and no insured event on the third-party, fire and theft list, so that cover pays nothing. On a heavy touring cruiser this is one of the most common losses, with panniers, mirrors and screen the casualties. Weigh that up before falling back on third-party, fire and theft on the basis of the machine's age.
Factory accessories fitted to the machine at delivery are usually included in the insured value. Parts added later are not automatically. Declare those separately with the purchase invoice, or have the machine valued. Also ask whether the cost of reading out and resetting the electronics after a loss is paid for.
The insurer pays for the repair, not for the time you cannot ride. Loss from downtime, replacement transport and hiring another machine fall outside the standard cover and have to be included as a module. When taking out the policy, also record whether repair at a dealer outside the insurer's repair network is permitted.
Yes, through the RDW. The duty to insure and the road tax then lapse. If you want to keep fire and theft cover while the machine stands idle, choose storage or suspension cover and meet the requirements that go with it. Damp, corrosion and battery damage remain excluded even then, because that is gradual damage.
