The sections
- Home: buildings, contents, glass
- Personal: liability, legal expenses, travel
- Traffic: car, motorcycle, motorhome
In a package your private insurance sits as sections on one policy, with one company. That gives a clear overview, but it is not the best choice in every situation.

A private insurance package is one agreement in which several covers are included as sections: buildings, home contents, glass, liability, legal expenses, travel, personal accident and often the motor vehicles as well. You get one policy schedule, one contract renewal date and one direct debit. Each section does keep its own conditions, sums insured and excess.
The advantage lies in the overview and usually in a package discount that rises as you take more sections. The disadvantage is that you tie yourself to one company. If you have an unusual risk, such as a thatched roof, a listed building, a classic car or valuables, the specialist insurer is often stronger on conditions than the package. So have not only the discount but also the conditions for each section compared.
We compare your insurance package across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThree things determine whether a package works in your situation.
Each cover remains a product of its own within the same policy.
A percentage that usually rises with the number of sections.
A clear overview in exchange for being tied to one company.
What is covered
| Situation | Package | Separate policies |
|---|---|---|
| All covers on one policy schedule | Yes | No |
| One contract renewal date for the whole | Yes | No |
| A discount that rises with the number of sections | Provided that | No |
| Choosing a different company for each cover | No | Yes |
| Including health insurance as a part | No | No |
| New risks automatically included | No | No |
Each section has its own conditions, limits and exclusions. These are set out in the policy conditions and on the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) for that part.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.

Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Two points that determine whether a package really gains you anything.
A package tells you what you save, not what you are missing. For each section, check the sum insured, the excess and the maximum amounts for jewellery, audiovisual equipment or tenant's improvements, for example. Look for overlap too: glass that appears on both the buildings and the home contents section is paid for twice while you can only claim it once. A sum insured that is too low leads to underinsurance, with the payout made proportionately.
In every section the following remain outside the cover: intent and recklessness (Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code), wear, deferred maintenance and design faults and damage caused by war risks or a nuclear reaction. Business use and damage that already existed when the policy was taken out also fall outside it. Report changes such as a refurbishment, letting a room or running a business from home: on entering into the contract, Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code and a breach can reduce the payout (Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code).
This is what people ask us most.
Usually buildings, home contents, glass, liability, legal expenses, travel and personal accident, and with many companies the motor vehicles as well. Valuables can sometimes be included as a separate section. Health insurance does not belong in it: that falls under the Dutch Health Insurance Act and you take it out directly with a health insurer. Which sections are available differs from one company to another.
Usually yes, in whole or in part. The discount is linked to the number of sections. If one falls away, the discount percentage is set again and the premium of the remaining parts rises. Take that into account before you place one cover elsewhere, because the benefit may then turn out smaller than it looks.
Most general insurance policies can be cancelled on any day after the first contract year, with a notice period of usually one month. In the first year the contract term often applies. With a package you can usually also end individual sections. Check this in your policy conditions and make sure replacement cover starts without a day's gap.
For ordinary situations it works well and gives you an overview and a discount. If you have a thatched roof, a listed building, a let property, a classic car or valuable jewellery, the conditions at a specialist insurer are often better. A combination of a package with one separate specialist policy is then a realistic option.
