Liability
- A fence or stage falling over
- Injury to a visitor
- Damage to the site
When you apply for the permit, the council asks for proof of insurance with a minimum sum insured. That is usually the moment an organiser discovers they do not have one yet.

Events insurance (evenementenverzekering) is made up of separate modules that you combine as you need them. Liability is the basis and almost always a condition of the permit: councils require cover with a minimum sum insured before they give permission.
You then choose cancellation of the event: the costs you have already incurred if the event does not go ahead, and cover for plant and machinery: stages, marquees, lighting, sound and decoration, often hired and therefore in your care.
Most damage does not happen during the event itself but during setting up and taking down. Check whether that period is included and how many days before and after the cover runs.
We compare your event insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
The council states a minimum sum insured in the permit conditions, often € 1.250.000 or € 2.500.000 per event, and sometimes specific requirements for structures or traffic measures. Ask for those requirements as soon as you start the application. You can always increase cover later, but by then you are already committed to suppliers and dates.
Stages, marquees, lighting, sound, crowd barriers and the site itself are all in your care. Damage to them falls under the care, custody and control exclusion and is not covered without a separate module or tenants' liability cover. For an organiser who hires in almost everything, that is not a marginal issue but the heart of the matter.
Cancellation cover pays the costs you have already incurred if the event does not go ahead because of an unforeseen cause: extreme weather, a headline act pulling out, an incident at the venue. What it almost never covers is disappointing interest or poor ticket sales. That is a business risk. Also watch the exclusions around government measures, which have been worded more tightly since the coronavirus period.
If you work with volunteers, the first question is what the council's volunteer insurance covers; almost every council has one. Top up whatever is missing and record who does which task, certainly for work at height during the build.
This is what people ask us most.
Not by law, but councils almost always set liability cover as a condition of the permit, with a minimum sum insured. Without that cover the permit will not be granted.
Under most policies they are, but the number of days before and after differs. Most accidents happen precisely in that period, so check the term explicitly.
The costs you have already incurred if the event does not go ahead because of an unforeseen cause, such as extreme weather or a headline act pulling out. Disappointing ticket sales, or poor weather without a cancellation, fall outside it.
Not as standard. Stages, marquees, lighting and sound are in your care and fall under the care, custody and control exclusion. That needs a separate module or tenants' liability cover.
First check what the council's volunteer insurance covers and top up whatever is missing. That is particularly relevant for work at height during the build.
That falls under cancellation, but the exclusions around government measures have been tightened since the coronavirus period. Read that clause before you sign.
