Unigarant as an insurer at Finass
Unigarant is one of the parties Finass works with, with a range that leans heavily on vehicles that are not driven every day. That is precisely where security and valuation matter.

In brief
Finass acts as intermediary with more than thirty companies; Unigarant is one of them, with a range for caravans, motorhomes, mopeds, bicycles and light quadricycles (brommobielen). Which company suits you best follows from the vehicle and your use of it.
With vehicles that stand idle for part of the year, the risk shifts from driving to theft and storage. Insurers translate that into security requirements: an approved lock, an alarm or a tracking system, and with larger vehicles requirements for the site where the vehicle stands. Those requirements appear as clause on the policy schedule and are a condition of payment. If you move to a different storage address, report it, because the address declared on the application partly determines the rate.
The second theme is the valuation. With new vehicles a purchase-price arrangement applies with a fixed monthly depreciation, with older vehicles payment is on market value, and with unusual or restored examples an valuation report is the only way to prevent discussion afterwards. Such a report generally has a limited period of validity. If it expires, you fall back on market value. Also stay within the limit of Article 7:960 of the Dutch Civil Code: a higher sum insured does not produce a higher payout than your actual loss.
This page deals with one situation. The full overview is on Insuring a light quadricycle (brommobiel).
The same independent view, whatever insurer
We work with dozens of insurers and choose whichever fits your situation best — not whichever pays us the most. That means advice built around you, not around one brand.

AdviceWhat to look out for
Four points that most often lead to discussion with vehicles other than the everyday car.
Accessories and fittings
A bike rack, awning, mover, solar panel, audio system or charging facility falls under an sub-limit for accessories or has to be declared separately. At claim time what counts is what appears on the policy schedule and not what you paid. Keep invoices and have the insured value adjusted after a purchase; naming an amount afterwards does not work.
Who may drive
Cover applies to drivers who meet the licence and age requirement. With a moped or light quadricycle that is an AM licence from the age of sixteen. With a motorhome it depends on the weight of the vehicle and the licence that goes with it. If someone drives without the right documents, there is no cover and third-party liability payments can be recovered under the WAM.
Transport, carriage and work on the vehicle
If the vehicle is at a repair firm, is carried on a trailer or travels by boat, different provisionsoften apply. Damage arising during transport or during work by a third party regularly falls under that party's liability and not under your own-damage cover. Report such situations in advance.
Use that falls outside the policy
Excluded are business use such as delivery or courier work under a personal policy, use as a driving-school vehicle, taking part in speed or skill trials and damage caused by rodents, vermin or damp in storage. Theft where the prescribed security was not in use is likewise refused.
What does your premium depend on?
- Type and value of the vehicle: decisive for the own-damage premium
- Year of manufacture: determines which valuation arrangement is still possible
- Storage address: a locked site or the public road makes the biggest difference in the event of theft
- Security fitted: an approved lock, alarm or tracking system
- Modules chosen: assistance, contents and liability as separate elements
- Number of vehicles on one policy: several objects can trigger a discount scale
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
What is covered
| Situation | Third-party liability | Comprehensive |
|---|---|---|
| Your light quadricycle clips a parked car while manoeuvring into a space | Yes | Yes |
| Hail damage to the roof of the motorhome during a trip through France | No | Yes |
| The caravan disappears from the storage site | No | Provided that |
| The awning tears in a gust of wind at the campsite | No | Provided that |
| Damp turns out to have been penetrating under the caravan's roof edge for years | No | No |
| Your electric bicycle has gone from the shed, without signs of forced entry | No | No |
Every vehicle has its own form of cover on the policy schedule; within a package they can therefore differ item by item.
Frequently asked questions
This is what people ask us most.
Are the contents of my caravan or motorhome covered?
Only if separate contents cover appears on the policy, and usually up to a limited amount with its own conditions for theft. Valuables, laptops and photographic equipment often fall under a sub-limit or are excluded altogether. Take valuable items out of the vehicle; leaving them unattended is one of the most common grounds for refusal.
Why is a valuation report useful?
A valuation by a recognised expert establishes the value in advance, so that after a total loss no discussion arises about market value. That matters particularly with restored, modified or hard-to-compare vehicles. Note the report's period of validity and have it renewed in good time, otherwise the payout falls back on the ordinary valuation basis.
What happens if I do not use my vehicle for a year?
Standing idle does not remove the risk: theft, fire, storm and vandalism continue. Some insurers offer a lower premium for a period in which the vehicle is demonstrably in storage, with requirements for the storage place. If you suspend the registration, report it, because a suspended vehicle does not have to meet the insurance obligation but can still be stolen.
Does the cover also apply outside the Netherlands?
The area of cover is stated on the certificate of insurance, usually the green card area. For own-damage cover a maximum uninterrupted period abroad may also apply. If you are going away for longer or to a country outside that area, have the policy adjusted in advance or take out additional cover. Afterwards it cannot be put right.
