FINASS is not an insurer but an independent insurance adviser. We act as intermediaries in applying for policies and can include Bovemij alongside what more than thirty other companies offer. In the Netherlands Bovemij is best known in the field of mobility and traffic; with us the company therefore comes into the picture most often for car insurance and related vehicle cover.
Our order of work is deliberately the reverse of what a brand name suggests. First we establish what needs to be insured, which risk you can carry yourself and which exclusions are unacceptable to you. Only then comes the question of which insurer fits. A the choice of insurer follows from the cover you need, not the other way round. If another company turns out to suit you better, that is what we will advise.
In the comparison we weigh mainly the conditions: which events are excluded, which limits apply per event and per year, what excess is set, and whether you are free to choose your own repairer. Differences on those points usually matter more in a large claim than the difference in premium.
Three steps determine whether Bovemij or another company appears on your quotation.
What needs to be insured and what you can carry yourself.
Several companies side by side, not on premium alone.
We arrange the application, the switch and support in the event of a claim.
What is covered
| Situation | Direct | Through FINASS |
|---|---|---|
| Several insurers side by side in one quotation | No | Yes |
| Advice on the appropriate form of cover | No | Yes |
| Exclusions and limits gone through in advance | No | Yes |
| Support with claims and repair | Provided that | Yes |
| Acceptance of an unusual or heavy risk | Provided that | Provided that |
| Amendment of the policy conditions themselves | No | No |
What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) that you receive before you take out cover.
Two points that have nothing to do with which company ends up on your policy.
Whatever name appears on the policy schedule, the same categories fall outside the cover almost everywhere: intent and gross negligence under Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code, damage caused by wear, deferred maintenance, construction or material faults, and damage during speed and skill contests. With Engine vehicles, driving without a valid licence or under the influence is added to that. Differences between companies usually lie at the edges: limits, excess and how broadly a clause is worded.
On taking out the policy, the duty of disclosure applies under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code. You declare what matters for acceptance: use of the vehicle, who drives it, modifications, claims history and any earlier refusal. If that picture is not correct, the payout may be reduced or lapse under Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code. In the event of a claim, the duty to notify under Article 7:941 of the Dutch Civil Codeapplies: report it as soon as reasonably possible.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is why comparing pays off.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
The questions we are asked most often about this.
No. We are an independent insurance adviser with access to what several insurers offer. Bovemij is one of them. Which company we advise depends on your cover requirements, your claims history and the acceptance policy of the insurer concerned. Our working method and how we are remunerated are set out in our services guide.
In many cases, yes. An existing policy can be transferred to our administration without the cover changing or having to be applied for again. We then go through the policy with you, check whether the sums insured and the form of cover still match your situation, and point out any duplicate cover. Keep your policy schedule to hand when you Contact us.
Because a premium only means something once there is a specific risk. For vehicle insurance the insurer works with the type of vehicle, its use, the mileage, your no-claims years, the form of cover and the excess. Quoting a figure without that information would mislead you. A calculation based on your own details takes little time and does give a usable answer.
Then we look further. Every company applies its own acceptance policy; a refusal by one insurer does not mean you cannot be placed anywhere. It is important, though, that you declare an earlier refusal or cancellation on your next application, because that falls under the duty of disclosure. Concealing it is precisely what leads to a policy later turning out to give no cover.
Request a quote without obligation; we will place several companies side by side.
