Customers' cars
- In the workshop
- On the premises
- On test drives
A garage is filled almost entirely with other people's cars. That is exactly what makes ordinary public and employers' liability insurance unsuitable: it excludes property in your care as standard.

Motor trade insurance (garageverzekering) is a combined policy for motor businesses. Its core section is cover for customers' cars: during repair, in the workshop, on the premises and on test drives. On an ordinary AVB that falls under the care, custody and control exclusion and is not covered.
The policy also includes workshop liability for faulty work on vehicles you have repaired, trading stock for cars you own yourself, and business contents for the ramp, tools and equipment.
For journeys in customer or stock cars you use a trade plate. Those journeys fall under the motor trade policy, provided the use has been declared correctly and the trade plate is used in accordance with the rules.
We compare your motor trade insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Theft of a customer's car using keys left lying around the premises is a recurring claim. Insurers ask how you store keys: in a locked cabinet, out of sight, separate from registration documents. Set that procedure down in writing and stick to it. It is decisive when you claim.
Journeys in customer or stock cars fall under the policy, but only if the use has been declared correctly and the trade plate is used in accordance with the rules. Journeys outside that (private use, for example) are not covered, and the insurer will then recover the third-party loss from you.
A wheel that is not torqued correctly or a leak that is missed can cause an accident weeks later. The consequential loss is then many times the cost of the repair. Document what work was carried out and which defects you reported but the customer chose not to have put right. That defence cannot be reconstructed later.
Cars left outside overnight are an underwriting question. Fencing, lighting, cameras and an alarm all count, and at higher stock values insurers impose additional requirements. Report any change in your storage arrangements; theft cover depends on it.
This is what people ask us most.
That is the core section of motor trade insurance. On an ordinary public and employers' liability policy they fall under the care, custody and control exclusion and are not covered.
Yes, provided the use has been declared correctly and the trade plate is used in accordance with the rules. Private use falls outside it.
That is workshop liability. The consequential loss can be many times the cost of the repair itself, particularly where there is injury as well.
That depends on your key procedure. Insurers ask how keys are stored. Without a demonstrable procedure your position is weak.
As a separate section with its own sum insured. Keep that amount up to date; stock values fluctuate considerably.
Report it. Those activities are assessed separately and may lead to different conditions or a higher premium.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
