The S5 is the six-cylinder version of the A5 and is usually driven every day: a high rating group combined with high mileage.

Insurers classify the S5 on power, weight and list price. That puts it one or more rating groups above the four-cylinder A5, while the body and the way it is used barely differ. So the difference lies not in the chance of a claim but in the expected cost of each event. For third-party liability it makes no difference: as long as the registration is in your name, the insurance requirement in Article 2 of the Dutch Motor Insurance Liability Act (WAM)applies, whatever the version.
The pattern of use determines the rest. An S5 is rarely driven only at weekends. It is often on the motorway for commuting or business journeys. That mainly produces stone chips, glass damage and minor rear-end damage. Because the camera for the driver assistance systems sits behind the windscreen, replacing the glass means recalibration. Check whether your glass cover includes that calibration or whether it is treated as a separate repair item.
If you change anything about the car or the way it is used, report it during the term. An increase in power, a different wheel size or a move to business use changes the risk the insurer has accepted. What you declare when you apply falls under the duty of disclosure in Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code; if it turns out afterwards to be wrong, the payout can be reduced under Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code. If you are unsure which form of cover to choose, read comprehensive or third-party, fire and theft.
We compare your car insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Not in the engine, but around the edges. The headlight units, the radar in the front bumper, the sensors in the mirror caps and the adaptive dampers make apparently light front-end damage expensive. A collision at parking speed can already affect the entire front. That is precisely why the market value of an older S5 falls below the repair costs sooner than you would expect from the year of manufacture, with a total loss settlement as the result.
On S versions insurers more often set a minimum age and a minimum number of no-claims years. If the car is registered in your name but your son or daughter drives it regularly, that person is the main driver and not you. If you do not declare that, the risk differs from the one accepted and the insurer can rely on Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code. So report a regular second driver in advance.
A software change that increases power, a sports exhaust or a different wheel and tyre size alters the basis of your rate. Without notification this counts as an incorrect declaration. Accessories and modifications are moreover usually only insured up to an amount stated in the policy and only where they appear on the policy. Have the modifications recorded on the policy schedule, and keep an invoice or fitting certificate in your own records.
The following remain outside the cover: driving on a circuit, during a track day or in a speed or skill event, even where it is an instruction day; wear and mechanical defects such as clutch, turbo or transmission damage without a collision; damage while driving without a valid licence or under the influence; hire or carrying passengers for payment; and damage arising during work on the car by you or by a firm that is not approved.
This is what people ask us most.
Usually yes. Insurers work from power, weight and list price, and on all three the S5 is higher than a four-cylinder A5. The difference lies mainly in the own-damage part, because the average cost of claims is higher. For the compulsory liability cover the difference is usually smaller than people expect.
That differs by policy. The windscreen of the S5 houses the camera for lane and distance assistance. It has to be realigned after replacement. Some insurers include that in the glass cover, others treat it as a separate repair item with an excess. Ask about this before you have the glass replaced.
Occasional use is not a problem under most policies, but regular use is. If someone drives it every week, that person is the main driver and must be on the policy. Insurers look closely at this on S versions in particular, because age counts heavily towards acceptance. Tell them in advance.
If you drive a car belonging to your employer, you do not build up no-claims years of your own; they sit on the owner's policy. Many insurers do accept a written lease statement confirming your claim-free period. Ask for it before you hand the car back, because such a statement is often hard to obtain afterwards.
