Driver assistance systems, remote updates and a limited repair network make the policy on a Tesla different from that on an average car.

This page is about the make as a whole. What the models share is not the bodywork but the technology around it: a great deal of electronics, cameras watching permanently, software that makes the car drive differently after an update, and body repairs that run through a limited number of designated firms. Those four things determine where a claim gets stuck.
For the model itself we refer you to the specific pages: Model S for the older saloon, Model X for the large SUV with falcon-wing doors and Model Y for the volume model.
A misunderstanding we hear often: driver assistance changes nothing about liability. If you cause damage to someone else, that remains your wrongful act (Article 6:162 of the Dutch Civil Code) and your third-party liability cover pays (Article 2 of the WAM). That the car was steering at that moment is not a question of cover.
We compare your car insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
The driver assistance systems are there to support. The driver remains responsible for the driving task. If you run into someone while the car was steering itself, the injured party is simply paid from your third-party liability cover (Article 2 of the WAM) and your wrongful act is the basis (Article 6:162 DCC). Damage to your own car qualifies for payment in that case only under comprehensive cover. Deliberately leaving the driving task to the car and not intervening can also lead to an argument about recklessness.
The built-in camera monitoring helps to trace an unknown person responsible after all, which makes recovering your loss simpler. It does not give you cover you did not have: scratches, dents and vandalism remain claims that fall only under comprehensive cover, and third-party, fire and theft does nothing with them. Without a report to the police, insurers usually will not deal with a theft or vandalism claim, however clear the footage is.
Features you activate for a payment or take on subscription are not an insured object: if you lose them after an update or on a sale, that is not damage within the meaning of the policy. Faults or recalls also fall under the warranty and not under the insurance. Modifications that are not factory-fitted, such as different wheels, wrapping or extra equipment, are only paid for if you declared them in advance.
Repairs run through a limited number of approved firms and the delivery time for parts determines how long the car is off the road. A replacement vehicle is only covered if you have insured it with the car, and then for a limited period. Because a damaged battery pack is often replaced as a whole, repair costs rise above the value of the car sooner and a total loss follows earlier. Loss of use and hire costs afterwards are not paid for.
This is what people ask us most.
Not automatically. Insurers calculate mainly with the value of the car, the power, the year of manufacture, the region and your claims history. Driver assistance systems are on virtually every version and are rarely rewarded separately. Insuring a higher excess or declaring a realistic mileage can make a noticeable difference, though; those are the factors you can influence yourself.
Choose the page that belongs to your car, because the points to note really do differ. On the Model S it turns on market value and the balance between comprehensive cover and third-party, fire and theft; on the Model X on the falcon-wing doors and the height; and on the Model Y on glass damage and on leasing. The general structure of the cover is the same for all models.
Theft falls under third-party, fire and theft and under comprehensive cover, not under third-party liability. Insurers set requirements for it: a report to the police, handing in all keys or key cards, and sometimes a minimum security class or a tracking system. Losing a key or locking yourself out is not theft and is not paid for, not even under comprehensive cover.
The repairer decides that on the basis of the investigation after the damage. Because the safety of a compromised pack cannot always be guaranteed, replacement of the whole is the outcome where there is doubt. That is why a total loss arises sooner with electric cars. Loss of capacity through normal use is never covered: that is wear.
