Liability
- AVB for injury and property damage
- Professional indemnity for advisory work
- Employers' liability where you have staff
'Zakenverzekering' is not an official product name in the Netherlands. It is an umbrella term for the insurance a business takes out. Below you can read which policies it actually covers.

If you are looking for a 'zakenverzekering', you are almost always looking for one of three things: cover for damage you cause to someone else, for your own business possessions, or for loss of turnover if the work stops. There is no single policy covering those three in one product; they are separate policies that you can put on one policy schedule.
For the first you need public and employers' liability insurance: injury and property damage to third parties, usually assessed under tort (Article 6:162 of the Dutch Civil Code). For the second, business contents, goods or tools insurance, and for company vehicles at least the compulsory third-party liability cover (Article 2 of the Dutch Motor Insurance Liability Act (WAM)).
For the third there is business interruption insurance, which pays continuing costs and lost gross profit for as long as you cannot work normally after a covered loss. Which of the three weighs heaviest for you depends on your work: an adviser has little in the way of business contents but a great deal of advisory risk, a trading company exactly the other way round.
Every sector carries its own risks. We translate those into cover that genuinely fits what you do day to day, rather than a standard package that just happens to apply to your business too.

What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) that you receive before you take out cover.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Two points when choosing a business policy.
Providers use names such as business package, entrepreneur's package or company policy for widely differing combinations. So look not at the name but at the description of business activity, the sums insured and the exclusions. Two policies with the same name can differ in care, custody and control cover, territory or excess. Always ask for the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) and the policy conditions before you sign, and compare them side by side instead of just the premium.
Whatever the name, certain things remain excluded: intent and wilful recklessness (Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code), fines and penalty payments, wear, deferred maintenance and design faults, and the redoing your own work. Theft without signs of forced entry, goods you leave unattended in a van and damage during vacancy or building work are also often excluded or limited. Report a loss as soon as reasonably possible (Article 7:941 of the Dutch Civil Code).
This is what people ask us most.
No. There is no product bringing liability, assets, standstill, vehicles and staff together in one cover. Insurers do offer packages in which those policies appear on one schedule, with one start date and often a package discount. Within them the covers and sums insured are still set part by part.
Only third-party liability cover for motor vehicles registered to the business is compulsory by law, under Article 2 of the Dutch Motor Insurance Liability Act (WAM). Beyond that the Netherlands has no general insurance requirement for business owners. Clients, tenders, landlords or a professional body do often set requirements, for instance a minimum sum insured for liability.
Usually not. Personal liability insurance expressly excludes damage arising from a profession or business, and home contents insurance covers business contents and stock only to a limited extent or not at all. If you work from home, report that on your home policies and take out separate cover for the business side.
Start with liability: that is the loss you are least able to carry yourself, certainly where injury is involved. Then add your business assets if you work with equipment, stock or expensive kit. Business interruption and legal expenses follow as soon as a standstill or a legal dispute would hit your turnover directly.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
