In brief
Without no-claims years you start at the bottom of the bonus-malus ladder. Every year without an at-fault claim earns a step. With an at-fault claim you usually lose five at once.
The common mistake is registering the car to a parent while the child is the regular driver. That saves premium, but builds up no no-claims years for the younger driver: and when you claim the payout can be refused.
This page deals with one part. The overview of all parts is on the the main car insurance page.
Independent, personal, sorted quickly
We compare your car insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredWhy arrange it through Finass Verzekert?
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.

We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.

Help with claims
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
What to look out for
Declaring the main driver correctly
If the younger driver drives most, declare that. Otherwise there is an incorrect declaration, with consequences when you claim and without any years of your own being built up.
Third-party, fire and theft or third-party liability
On an older, inexpensive car, third-party liability or third-party, fire and theft is often defensible. With finance it usually is not.
Mileage and excess
A lower mileage and a higher excess bring the premium down noticeably.
No-claims years from a scooter or light quadricycle (brommobiel)
If you have built those up, many insurers will transfer them to the car.
What determines the premium
- Age and driving experience
- Number of no-claims years
- Make, model and power
- Annual mileage
- Cover and excess chosen
This information is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover.
Frequently asked questions
May the car be registered in my parents' name?
You may, but you then have to be declared as the main driver. If you do not, the insurer can refuse or reduce the payout when you claim.
Do I then build up no-claims years myself?
Only if you are on the policy as the main driver. Otherwise the years accrue to the registered keeper.
How many years do I lose when I claim?
With an at-fault claim usually five. As a novice driver you are then quickly back at the starting position.
Can I bring years over from my scooter?
With many insurers you can. Ask about it. It makes an immediate difference to the premium.
