In brief

With many insurers, sports cars fall outside the standard rate. Acceptance depends on the list price, your age and driving experience, the storage and the annual mileage.

Insurance is preferably taken out on agreed value, so that there is no argument about depreciation if the car is written off. Repair goes through the brand dealer or a specialist repairer.

This page deals with one part. The overview of all parts is on the the main car insurance page.

What to look out for

Circuit use is excluded everywhere

Speed trials and track days fall outside every policy. Separate day policies exist for touring days.

Limited mileage keeps the premium down

If you only drive the car at weekends, agree a lower mileage. That makes a considerable difference.

Storage and security

A locked garage, alarm class and sometimes a tracker are a condition of own-damage cover.

Recording the circle of drivers

A limited circle of drivers lowers the premium, but leads to problems if someone else was driving.

What determines the premium

  • Valued amount or list price
  • Make, model and power
  • Annual mileage
  • Storage and security
  • Age and driving experience of the driver

Calculate the premium

This information is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover.

Frequently asked questions

Why does not every insurer accept my car?

Above a certain list price the car falls outside the standard rate. Repair costs and theft risk differ too much from an average car.

Is a valuation necessary?

Strongly recommended. Without a valuation the insurer pays out on market value, and with an unusual car that rarely does justice to what it is really worth.

May I go on a circuit?

No. Speed trials and circuit use are excluded. For touring days you can take out a separate day policy.

Does a lower mileage help?

Yes, considerably. With a car driven mainly at weekends, a limited mileage is one of the most effective ways of keeping the premium down.
