The luggage section is where most disappointment arises, and that is down to two mechanisms. The first is depreciation: outside a short period during which replacement value as new applies, payment is made on market value, so with a deduction for age and use. A four-year-old laptop therefore produces a fraction of its purchase price. The second is the system of sub-limits per category: photographic and computer equipment, jewellery, telephones and glasses each have their own ceiling.
Also, travel insurance is essentially a supplementary insurance. Medical expenses are only assessed after the health insurer has done what it has to do. The travel insurance supplements what is left, such as repatriation and transport. With luggage, too, another policy takes precedence: if the laptop is on the home contents insurance or the telephone is separately insured, that policy is the first to respond.
With a continuous policy, the annual structure is added. Modules you have chosen once run on until you change them, even if your travel pattern changes. We go through the modules each year and compare them with a separate policy per trip if you now rarely go away.
We compare your travel insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThe structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.
The basic cover insures the core of your continuous travel insurance. We set out what De Goudse and other insurers offer within it.
On top of that to medical assistance, also luggage, accidents, legal expenses and (optionally) winter sports.
The most complete cover. We compare De Goudse's extended version with the market.
What is covered
| Situation | Basic | With winter sports module |
|---|---|---|
| Theft of luggage from a locked space | Provided that | Provided that |
| Repatriation after an accident | Yes | Yes |
| Medical expenses abroad | Provided that | Provided that |
| Damage to or theft of hired ski equipment | No | Yes |
| An accident while skiing off-piste | No | Provided that |
| A trip to an area with a negative travel advisory | No | No |
Travel insurance reimburses medical expenses as a supplement to your health insurance, not as a replacement for it. Winter sports and special sports are excluded as standard and require a separate module. A negative travel advisory from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs generally excludes cover for that area; report a claim as soon as reasonably possible (7:941 DCC).

This overview concerns our service, not the cover. What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and on the insurer's insurance card (verzekeringskaart); you receive both before you take out cover.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Policy conditions have a short period after purchase during which payment is made on replacement value as new. After that, market value applies. With electronics that depreciation goes quickly. Keep purchase receipts, because without evidence of the purchase date the assessment almost always turns out to your disadvantage. Where damage can be repaired, the repair costs is paid and not the replacement value, even if you would rather replace the item.
Besides the total luggage amount, separate ceilings apply to equipment, jewellery, telephones, glasses and sometimes sports or diving gear. Those ceilings apply per category and not per item. A stolen suitcase with a camera, laptop and telephone therefore hits several limits at once. If you travel with equipment exceeding these ceilings, separate insurance for that equipment makes more sense than a higher luggage module.
Travel policies contain a contribution provision: if the loss is insured elsewhere, that policy takes precedence. A camera covered by valuables insurance is settled there. For medical expenses, the health insurance leads and the travel insurance supplements, for example with repatriation and bringing travelling companions home. So report a loss to both policies and let us determine the order.
Luggage left unattended, theft from a car without signs of forced entry and loss without an identifiable event fall outside the cover. The same applies to wear, scratches and an inherent defect in the item itself. Damage while taking part in risky sports is excluded unless those sports are expressly included. Reporting to the police locally and a written report to the carrier are conditions for luggage claims, not formalities.
This is what people ask us most.
Because after the new-for-old period, settlement is on market value. The payment is then the value at the time of the loss, with a deduction for age and use, and with electronics that deduction mounts up quickly. If the device can be repaired, the repair costs are paid instead of replacement. A dated purchase receipt is needed to support the assessment.
No, it supplements it. The health insurance first pays what falls under the basic cover, including abroad, although outside Europe that is often up to a Dutch rate. What remains above that, plus transport, repatriation and the help of the emergency assistance centre, comes from the travel insurance. On admission to hospital, always call the emergency assistance centre first; without that report the cover for transport can fall away.
Where the theft can be shown, yes, up to the sub-limit for telephones and on market value. If there is no trace of any event and the telephone is simply gone, that is loss and that is excluded. Always report it to the police locally and keep the report; without that document the claim gets no further than the first assessment with virtually every insurer.
No, cancellation is a separate module. Without it, the costs of a cancelled or curtailed trip are not paid. If you do take the module, note the listed reasons for cancellation; only what is on that list gives a right to payment. A pre-existing condition that worsens usually falls outside it, as does cancellation because of a change of plan.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
