Most travel claims are small: a stolen telephone, a missed connection. The claims that really hit a household are rare and large: a hospital admission in the United States, surgery after an accident in Asia, medically escorted transport back to the Netherlands. This policy is set up for that category.
That makes three points important: the territorial scope including North America, the role of the emergency assistance centre in giving a guarantee of payment, and the limits for equipment and jewellery that travel with you. For valued items a travel policy is rarely the right place. Those belong on a Masterpiece cover with worldwide effect.
If you mainly make short trips within Europe and are looking for simplicity, the continuous travel insurance from Allianz is usually the more logical form. We set both side by side.
We compare your travel insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThe structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.
The basic cover insures the core of your travel insurance. We set out what Chubb and other insurers offer within it.
On top of that to medical assistance, also luggage, accidents, legal expenses and (optionally) winter sports.
The most complete cover. We compare Chubb's extended version with the market.
What is covered
| Situation | Basic | With winter sports module |
|---|---|---|
| Theft of luggage from a locked space | Provided that | Provided that |
| Repatriation after an accident | Yes | Yes |
| Medical expenses abroad | Provided that | Provided that |
| Damage to or theft of hired ski equipment | No | Yes |
| An accident while skiing off-piste | No | Provided that |
| A trip to an area with a negative travel advisory | No | No |
Travel insurance reimburses medical expenses as a supplement to your health insurance, not as a replacement for it. Winter sports and special sports are excluded as standard and require a separate module. A negative travel advisory from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs generally excludes cover for that area; report a claim as soon as reasonably possible (7:941 DCC).

This overview concerns our service, not the cover. What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and on the insurer's insurance card (verzekeringskaart); you receive both before you take out cover.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
In countries with no treaty with the Netherlands, your basic health insurance pays the Dutch rate at most. Admission to intensive care in the United States or Canada goes far beyond that. This policy is intended to absorb that difference. Involve the emergency assistance centre before treatment or admission: it gives the hospital a guarantee of payment. Without that step the insurer can limit the payment.
Medically escorted transport, an air ambulance or bringing a deceased person home are the most expensive items of a trip. The emergency assistance centre organises this and assesses whether transport is medically responsible. Not covered is transport you arrange yourself without prior consent, and returning on your own initiative without medical necessity. The costs of a travelling companion who comes with you are also only covered where that has been agreed in advance.
Even on a generous travel policy, sub-limits apply to cameras, laptops, watches and jewellery. Excluded are items left unattended, valuable equipment you check into the hold, and loss of cash and payment cards above a small amount. If you travel with equipment or jewellery exceeding the sub-limit, put those on valuables cover; that follows the items worldwide, including outside a trip.
If you depart for an area which the government advises against travelling to at that moment, the cover is in principle not in force there. Diving below a certain depth, mountaineering with ropes, heli-skiing and riding heavy motorcycles call for a separate module. In all variants, taking part in competitions, riot and the consequences of taking part in a crime are excluded.
This is what people ask us most.
Yes, provided North America is included in your territorial scope and you involve the emergency assistance centre as soon as admission arises. The centre gives a guarantee of payment, so that the hospital does not demand payment from you in advance. Your basic health insurance also pays up to the Dutch rate. The excess comes from this policy.
For admission, surgery, medical transport and repatriation, yes. That is not a formality: the centre assesses the necessity, arranges the guarantee of payment and chooses the form of transport. If you arrange it yourself, you run the risk that costs are reduced or refused. For small costs, such as a visit to a doctor, keeping the invoice is enough.
Not as standard. Higher-risk sports fall under a separate module and often have their own limits, for example a maximum diving depth or the use of ropes and crampons. Taking part in competitions remains excluded even with the module. Tell us about your activities in advance and we will record the cover in writing.
Up to the sub-limit stated on the policy schedule. Above that you need valuables cover, which follows the items worldwide on the basis of a valuation. We look at whether that runs through a Masterpiece cover or through an extension to your home contents insurance, so that you are not insured twice.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
