A standard contents policy works with maximum amounts per category. As soon as a jewellery collection, a painting or a wine cellar exceeds those maximums, the cover is security on paper only. This form turns that around: the items are valued and specified individually, and that recorded value is the starting point when there is a claim.
The second feature is the scope. Valued items are generally covered not only in the home but outside it as well — on the move, at the jeweller's, in a bank vault or during an exhibition. On the other hand, insurers in this segment set stricter requirements as to security, use of a safe and the information provided at the outset.
For an ordinary home and ordinary contents this form is too heavy. We then compare with the Allianz home contents insurance. For valuables that are mainly on the move, we also look at the travel insurance through Chubb.
We compare your van insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThe structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.
The basic cover insures the core of your Masterpiece insurance. We show what Chubb and other insurers offer within it.
As well as the basic cover, also protection against loss, damage and theft away from home, including from external causes.
The most complete cover. We compare Chubb's extended version with the market.

This overview concerns our service, not the cover. What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and on the insurer's insurance card (verzekeringskaart); you receive both before you take out cover.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Every valuable item is given its own valuation and its own line on the policy. That removes any argument about the value after the event and eliminates the risk of underinsurance on that item. The report does have to be up to date: if you buy more, have something restored or the market moves, have it revalued. Article 7:960 of the Dutch Civil Code continues to apply, so here too you never receive more than your actual loss.
Valued items generally follow the item itself: at home, in the safe, on the way to a valuer or on loan to an exhibition. What is not paid for is just as important: gradual deterioration, discolouration through light, damp and insects, damage during restoration or cleaning by a third party, and inherent defect. For items prone to breakage there is often a separate provision on transport and packing.
In this segment the properties often have an unusual construction type: thatched roofs, listed features, handmade window frames. Rebuilding with equivalent materials costs a multiple of standard construction, and the buildings sum insured must be matched to that. Insurers therefore set requirements as to the state of maintenance, the electrical installation and lightning protection. Deferred maintenance is a ground for exclusion, not a detail in the small print.
Clauses attach to the policy: a certified alarm with remote signalling, jewellery in the safe overnight or during absences, and a duty to report a long period of vacancy or a stay elsewhere. If a clause is not complied with, the payout is open to question. Incorrect or incomplete information at the outset (about earlier claims, security or occupancy) falls under Articles 7:928 and 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code.
This is what people ask us most.
Because the value is then established before the loss. Without a valuation you have to show after the event what a ring or painting that has gone was worth, using purchase invoices that are often missing or out of date. With a valuation report that is recorded and there is no underinsurance on that item. Have reports renewed periodically, certainly for precious metals and art.
An ordinary policy covers the whole contents under one amount with low maximums per category of valuables. Here the valuable items are specified and valued separately, usually with wider cover outside the home. For an average household that is unnecessary. In that case all you need is the Allianz home contents insurance.
With valued items it usually is, because the cover follows the item rather than the home. Note the safe clause in hotels and the exclusion for items left unattended and for checked baggage. If you travel a lot, we look at this together with your travel insurance, so that the covers fit together.
Not everything. Ordinary household effects are included under a total amount; specification is intended for items exceeding the sub-limit of a normal policy. In practice this means jewellery, watches, art, antiques, musical instruments and collections. We draw up the list with you and keep it up to date after a purchase or sale.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
