Valuables and mobile electronics insurance is all risks cover on named items. Each item appears on the policy with a description and a value and is covered against damage, theft and loss, wherever in the world you have it with you. Mobile electronics such as a phone, tablet, laptop and smartwatch often have a section of their own, because daily use and rapid depreciation give a different risk profile from jewellery.
For jewellery, watches, art and antiques you work with an agreed value valuation. An appraisal by an expert establishes the value in advance; Article 7:960 DCC gives such an advance appraisal binding force, so that after a theft the value is not negotiated all over again. Without an appraisal or a purchase invoice, all that is left after a loss is an estimate, and that rarely works out in your favour.
On a home contents insurance sub-limits apply to jewellery and equipment, and that cover stops the moment you step out of the door. That is exactly the gap this policy fills. If you own a larger collection, the route through high-value valuables or a separate valuables insurance is more suitable; we look at which set-up matches what you own.
We compare your electronics insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThe structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.
The basic cover insures the core of your valuables and mobile electronics insurance. We show what Ansvar Idea and other insurers offer within it.
Alongside breakage damage, also short circuit, overheating, operating and assembly errors.
The most complete cover. We compare Ansvar Idea's extended version with the market.
What is covered
| Situation | Extended | Comprehensive |
|---|---|---|
| Fire, smoke and water damage in the home | Yes | Yes |
| Theft after forced entry | Yes | Yes |
| Knocks and falls at home | No | Yes |
| Loss or theft away from home | Provided that | Provided that |
| Damage during transport, repair or exhibition | Provided that | Provided that |
| Wear, shrinkage, damp and insect damage | No | No |
A home contents policy has sub-limits: for jewellery, audiovisual equipment and collections a lower limit applies than for the rest of the contents. If your items exceed that, you insure them separately on a valuables policy, usually on the basis of a valuation (7:960 DCC). Underinsurance leads to a proportionately lower payout.

This overview concerns our service, not the cover. What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and on the insurer's insurance card (verzekeringskaart); you receive both before you take out cover.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Insurers distinguish between theft, damage and loss. Disappearance without an identifiable cause, so a ring that has simply gone, is the most difficult element: not every version includes it and sometimes a separate maximum applies. Check this point expressly, because with jewellery and earphones unexplained disappearance is the most common claim.
A broken screen or moisture damage is usually covered with mobile electronics. What is not covered: the loss of your data, the costs of reinstallation, subscriptions that keep running, software errors and the gradual decline in battery capacity. Cosmetic scratches and dents that do not affect operation are not paid either. The cover concerns the device, not what was on it.
Almost all policy conditions require you to carry valuables with you or keep them in a locked space. Theft from a parked car, from a hotel room without a safe or from an unattended table in a cafe is limited or not paid. Always report it to the police straight away and report the claim as soon as possible, as Article 7:941 DCC requires.
A stone falling out of a worn setting, a clasp giving way through wear or a manufacturing fault in a device is not a sudden event from outside. For a defective product the route runs to the supplier or to the rules in Article 6:185 DCC. If you use equipment professionally, say so; otherwise a private policy may fail on that point.
This is what people ask us most.
For jewellery, watches and art that is sensible and above a certain value often compulsory. An advance appraisal by an expert establishes the value beforehand and, under Article 7:960 DCC has binding force when the claim is settled. For electronics the purchase invoice with the serial number is usually enough, because the replacement value as new is easy to establish there.
If the mobile electronics section is included, yes: a broken screen is sudden damage. An excess usually applies and sometimes a deduction based on the age of the device. Not paid are loss of data, the costs of setting the device up again and cosmetic scratches that do not affect operation.
Yes, as long as the destination falls within the agreed geographical limits. That is the difference from a home contents policy, which stops at the front door. Do note the usual requirements of care: valuables belong in a hotel safe or with you, not in hold luggage or in a parked hire car.
That depends on the cause. If you knock the ring hard against something, there is a sudden event from outside and the damage is covered in principle. If the setting comes loose through wear, that is an inherent defect and there is no payment. Having the setting checked periodically avoids that conversation.
