Electronics insurance through Klaverblad
Equipment that leaves the premises changes its risk. Most damage to business electronics happens on the move, in the van or at a customer's site.

In brief
Finass acts as intermediary for the business range of Klaverblad and sets it objectively alongside more than thirty other companies. With electronics insurance the comparison is rarely about the premium and almost always about the area of cover. A policy that only works at the business address is virtually worthless for an installer, photographer, inspector or field engineer: their laptops, cameras, drones, measuring instruments and tablets are somewhere else for most of the week.
The strictest provision in the whole product is the theft clause for equipment in a vehicle. Insurers generally require signs of forced entry, a properly locked vehicle, equipment not visible from outside and sometimes a night clause: no cover between certain hours when the van is parked on the street. A van emptied overnight while parked on a public road is the most common refusal in this sector.
Also look at how claims are settled. Insurers work with a depreciation scale or with settlement in kind, where you receive an equivalent device through a fixed supplier. That matters above all with equipment that has a long delivery time. Also ask whether a temporary replacement device is arranged. For private valuables and phones away from home, the valuables insurance the appropriate product.

What to look out for
Four provisions that determine the outcome of a claim on mobile equipment.
What is structurally outside the cover
Excluded are, among others disappearance and unexplained loss without any identifiable event; theft from a vehicle left unlocked or unattended, or without signs of forced entry; and damage to batteries through normal use or ageing. Scratches and dents that do not affect operation are also generally not paid.
Who uses the equipment counts
If you give devices to staff for private use, or they travel with them, say so. Some policies cover use in the course of the business only. Equipment lent to a client or subcontractor also needs to be mentioned separately, because you then no longer have actual control over how carefully it is handled.
Geographical limits and jobs abroad
As standard, cover is often limited to the Netherlands or the Benelux. If you regularly work across the border, have the area extended to Europe or worldwide. If that is not notified and a device is lost abroad, the insurer can invoke Articles 7:928 and 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code: the risk insured differs from the risk actually run.
Recording serial numbers
Keep an up-to-date list of make, type, serial number and date of purchase, with the invoices alongside. If several devices are stolen at once, that is the only evidence of what has gone. Without the list, the loss adjuster establishes the extent on the basis of what can be proved, and that almost always comes out lower than the actual loss.
What does your premium depend on?
- Total replacement value: of the whole stock of equipment
- Share of mobile equipment: devices on the move weigh more heavily than fixed installations
- Area of cover: the Netherlands, Europe or worldwide
- Security of vehicles: alarm, secure box and where the van is parked at night
- Claims history: earlier thefts feed through into the rate
- Excess: often higher for theft than for damage
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
What is covered
| Situation | At the business address | On the road and on site |
|---|---|---|
| Lightning strikes and the equipment in the server cabinet burns out | Yes | Yes |
| A laptop falls off a table at a customer's site and the screen breaks | No | Yes |
| Coffee is spilled over a tablet during an inspection on site | No | Yes |
| Measuring equipment disappears from the van without any signs of forced entry | No | No |
| A camera is damaged on a job in Germany while the area covered is the Netherlands | No | No |
| A drone's battery noticeably holds less charge after two years | No | No |
With this product, the geographical limits and the theft clause for equipment in a vehicle determine almost every outcome.
Frequently asked questions
This is what people ask us most.
My van has been broken into and the measuring equipment has gone. What now?
Report it to the police straight away and photograph the signs of forced entry. The insurer checks whether the vehicle was properly locked, whether the equipment was visible from outside and whether any night clause was observed. If you meet those conditions, the loss falls under the theft section, usually with a higher excess than for damage.
Is water damage to a laptop on site included?
Yes, that is a typical all risks event from outside and is covered in principle on this policy, even where it was your own clumsiness. There is no cover only in the case of intent or wilful recklessness; Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code is the statutory basis for that. Keep the device, because the loss adjuster will want to establish the cause of the damage.
Do I get a new device or a sum of money?
That differs from policy to policy. With settlement in kind the insurer supplies an equivalent device through a fixed supplier. With a cash payment a deduction often applies from a certain age. Ask about this in advance, because with equipment that has a long delivery time a quick replacement is worth more than a higher amount.
Is the data on the device insured as well?
Restoring files from an existing back-up may fall under a separate section. Files of which there is no copy are not compensated in money. If personal data falls into the wrong hands through the stolen device, that is a data breach and the notification and recovery costs belong on cyber insurance, not on this policy.
