Travel, accidents and AVP
- Injury during the flight not covered
- An AVP excludes aircraft
- Even for a single flight
Insurers class sail-wing flying as an air sport. That is one of the standard exclusions on travel, personal accident and liability cover.

You fly a sail wing: an unpowered aircraft that you launch from a slope, by winch or by aerotow. To an insurer that is not a sport but aviation. Ordinary travel insurance, personal accident insurance and personal liability insurance for private individuals usually rule out taking part in air sports from, even if you fly only once.
Cover therefore has to come from another direction: a liability insurance policy for the aircraft and personal accident cover that expressly includes air sports, usually through a club or federation. Always ask in writing what exactly is included: passenger flights, competitions and instruction are often arranged separately.
We compare your travel insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThree things determine your position: the exclusion on your own policies, the cover through the club and what you declare in advance.
Air sports are among the standard exclusions here.
Liability towards third parties runs through aviation cover.
Only written acceptance counts when you claim.

What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) that you receive in advance.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Two points that determine whether anyone pays after an accident.
Almost every travel and accident policy excludes three categories: air sports, mountain sports off the beaten track and speed and skill contests. Sail-wing flying falls unconditionally under the first. In addition, damage caused with an aircraft is excluded under personal liability insurance for private individuals, while you may still be liable under Article 6:162 of the Dutch Civil Code.
Parachuting and skydiving
If you practise the sport regularly, declare it when you take out personal accident or disability insurance (AOV): that is the duty of disclosure under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code. Withholding it can cause the payout to lapse (Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code). Flying in prohibited weather conditions or without a valid licence is assessed as recklessness (Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code).
This is what people ask us most.
Usually not. Air sports are among the standard exclusions, as are mountain sports and speed competitions. A single flight falls under it too. Ask in writing before you travel whether an extension is possible.
No. The AVP excludes damage caused with an aircraft. For that you need liability cover attached to the aircraft, often arranged through the club or the owner of the sail wing.
Luggage, cancellation and ordinary medical costs remain insured as normal. The exclusion only affects loss arising from or during the flying itself, including search, rescue and recovery costs.
Often it does. Some insurers distinguish between flying yourself and flying along with a recognised operator. Have that difference confirmed in writing in advance; do not rely on a verbal assurance.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
Have it recorded before your first flight what cover you have. We will find out which insurer accepts air sports.
