The flight itself
- Scheduled flights are covered
- Flying yourself is not
- Nor are instruction flights
Ultralight flying means flying a light sport aircraft, either at the controls yourself or as an occupant. That is air sport, and air sport is one of the standard exclusions on private policies.

Travel insurance covers you as a passenger on a public transport aircraft. As soon as you fly yourself, fly along in an ultralight or take an instruction flight, that falls under air sports and cover for the consequences lapses. The same applies to the personal accident section of many policies.
What you need lies on the aviation side: liability cover for the aircraft and, where necessary, hull and occupants' cover through a specialist insurer. Your personal liability insurance (AVP) excludes damage caused with an aircraft as standard.
We compare your travel insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThree policies diverge here: travel, personal accident and the aviation policy for the aircraft.
Air sport falls outside ordinary travel and personal accident cover.
A separate insurance regime applies to the aircraft.

What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) that you receive in advance.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Two points that are structurally overlooked in air sport.
The standard exclusions are mountain sports, air sports, deep diving and speed competitions. On top of that, personal liability insurance excludes damage caused with a motor vehicle, vessel or aircraft. So liability for an emergency landing in a crop is arranged through the aviation policy.
Parachuting and skydiving
Personal accident and life insurers ask about air sport. Answering incorrectly engages the duty of disclosure under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code, with the result that the insurer may reduce or refuse payment (Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code). If you only take up flying later, report it then.
This is what people ask us most.
Not through travel insurance. That covers travel as a passenger on public transport, not air sport. Cover runs through an occupants' policy attached to the aircraft or through the flying club. Ask the owner which policy is in place.
No. The AVP excludes damage caused with an aircraft, just as it excludes damage caused with a motor vehicle. For damage to buildings, crops or people after an incident you need the liability cover attached to the aircraft.
Usually it does; exclusions rarely make an exception for a one-off. If you want certainty, ask your insurer for written confirmation before the flight or have additional cover noted on the policy.
Cover then lapses on virtually every policy, including a specialist aviation policy. Flying outside the conditions of your licence or outside the aircraft's permit counts as an excluded situation.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
Have it established which policy covers your flight, your aircraft and your occupants.
