Basic cover

With taxi work your customer is in the vehicle you are driving: your passenger is legally a third party, your drivers change and the mileage clocks up far faster than with a family car.

Like any passenger car, a taxi must be insured under Article 2 of the Dutch Motor Insurance Liability Act (WAM), but it is accepted on a completely different basis. Professional passenger transport means many hours in city traffic, constant getting in and out at awkward places, night work and several drivers per registration number. That produces a high exposure to injury claims from occupants, and that is the item that makes a taxi policy expensive.
Vereende places risks that are refused elsewhere. In the taxi segment that often arises after a policy cancellation, after a series of claims within a short period or with a new business that has not yet built up any no-claims years. We set that acceptance alongside the regular market, so that you know whether you are structurally dependent on this route or only temporarily.
The policy covers the vehicle and the liability, not your licence and not your turnover. What you carry, who is behind the wheel and whether your paperwork is in order determine whether it stays within that cover. If you also drive vans for care or goods transport, we look at the van insurance.
We work with dozens of insurers and choose whichever fits your situation best — not whichever pays us the most. That means advice built around you, not around one brand.

AdviceThe structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.
The basic cover insures the core of your taxi insurance. We show what Vereende and other insurers offer within it.
On top of that to damage to third parties, employers' and product liability and damage during work at the client's premises.
The most complete cover. We compare the extended version from Vereende with the market.

This overview concerns our service, not the cover. What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and on the insurer's insurance card (verzekeringskaart); you receive both before you take out cover.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Under the compulsory third-party liability cover, occupants are simply injured parties. Your customer's injuries are reimbursed from it. The exception is the driver: they are not a third party in relation to their own vehicle. For the driver, separate personal accident or occupants' indemnity insurance is therefore needed, and if they are an employee, a road accident also engages the duty of care under Article 7:611 of the Dutch Civil Code.
Paid passenger transport is only permitted with an operator's licence and a valid driver's card. If it emerges after a collision that the card had expired or that the vehicle was not registered as a taxi, the insurer comes to the question of whether the declared use was correct. Payment to the victim stands, but the own-damage loss and the recovery risk are left with you. Check validity dates for each driver and record it.
If a driver is an employee, your business is liable for the damage they cause to others, under Article 6:170 of the Dutch Civil Code. Recovery from that driver is almost never possible: Article 7:661 of the Dutch Civil Code only allows it in the case of intent or deliberate recklessness. If you work with hired-in or affiliated drivers, report that arrangement, because acceptance turns on who actually drives.
A suitcase damaged in the boot is carrier's liability and not motor damage. Loss of income because the car is off the road after a collision is not reimbursed. A replacement vehicle only if that module is included. If you drive privately while only taxi use has been declared, Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Codecomes into play. Driving under the influence or without a valid licence is excluded in all variants.
Retroactive cover (prior risk) Included for your staff during work.
This is what people ask us most.
Yes. Under the compulsory third-party liability cover, occupants count as injured third parties, so their injury claims are reimbursed, even though they paid you for the trip. The only person outside that is the driver. If you want to cover yourself or your drivers, occupants' indemnity insurance or personal accident cover is needed; that stands apart from the third-party liability cover.
The victim is paid in any event, because third-party liability cover is compulsory by law. But the insurer can recover that amount from you and refuse the own-damage claim, because the use is then not as declared. So introduce a fixed check on the validity dates of the driver's card and licence and keep that check with the personnel file.
Only if that appears on the policy. If only taxi use has been declared and something happens during a private trip, you are into the duty of disclosure under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code and its consequences under Article 7:930 DCC. Mixed use can generally be insured without difficulty, but it must have been declared in advance and included in the premium.
No. Motor insurance reimburses repair or market value of the vehicle and third parties' losses, not the fares you miss. For time off the road, a replacement vehicle module is the practical solution. That arranges a courtesy car and not your margin. If you really want to cover loss of income, that belongs with separate business interruption insurance.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
