Renault supplies many passenger cars that are technically related to vans, and that is precisely why with this make it is the use rather than the model that determines which policy fits.

Part of the Renault range has one foot in business. Passenger versions of vans are used to carry tools, materials or samples while they are on a private policy. Commercial carriage of goods is excluded on a private car insurance policy, and the tools in the car are not insured on it in any event.
At the other end of the range are the compact models often driven as a first car. There it turns on declaring the regular driver, on young drivers with a higher excess and on lending the car within a circle of friends and family.
If you drive a van for work, see the page on the Renault Master. For a comparison within the compact segment, the Smart page is relevant.
We compare your car insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
If you regularly carry tools or trading stock in a passenger version, declare it. A private policy assumes private use and possibly commuting; business use changes the risk on which the premium was calculated. If you conceal that, the insurer may rely on Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Codewhen there is a claim. The contents of the load space are not, and never become, part of the car insurance.
On older electric versions the battery pack is sometimes rented from a separate party instead of being bought with the car. That matters for who can claim damage to the pack and how a total loss is settled: the rental contract does not automatically end with the car. State on the application whether the battery is your property and keep the contract with your policy documents.
If the policy is in a parent's name while a child uses the car every day, the declaration is wrong. The insurer may then reduce the payment proportionately under Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code. Declare the actual driver, even where that costs more premium; many policies also apply a higher excess for drivers under a certain age.
If you lend the car to someone you know, the cover usually stays in place as long as the use is occasional and the driver holds a valid licence. If the car does not come back, that is misappropriation, and on virtually every policy that is excluded from the theft cover. If you hire it out through a sharing platform, that is commercial use requiring separate cover.
This is what people ask us most.
Commuting falls within the cover almost without exception, but commercial carriage of goods does not. If you drive with materials or trading stock, declare it so that the policy is adjusted or moved to a business form. The tools themselves stay outside the car insurance; separate business contents or tool cover is needed for those.
The own-damage cover of the car pays for damage to the battery pack caused by a mishap from outside, regardless of who owns it. The payment does go to the party entitled to it, and that may be the company that rents out the battery. The rental contract also simply continues, so report a total loss to that party as well and not only to your insurer.
If she drives it occasionally, that is usually covered. If she uses the car every day, she has to be named on the policy as the regular driver. If you do not do that, the insurer may reduce the payment in proportion to the premium that matched the actual risk. Work out in advance what a correct declaration costs.
With occasional lending the cover usually stays in place, provided the driver holds a valid licence and is not under the influence. A claim does count towards your no-claims years, because the policy is in your name. If the car does not come back, that is misappropriation and it is excluded from the theft cover.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
