Life coaching does not only take place in a consulting room: walking sessions, retreats, breathwork and bodywork bring a risk you can point to physically.

That is why you need cover on two sides. If a participant falls during a walking session or someone becomes unwell during a breathing exercise, that is an injury claim and a court will judge your conduct by Article 6:162 of the Dutch Civil Code: should you have foreseen this and should you have prevented it. If something goes wrong financially because your advice worked out badly, that is pure financial loss and it is a different cover.
Your policy states a described business activity. Coaching on personal goals falls within it. Diet plans, advice on supplements and trauma-focused techniques usually do not, because those are regarded as treatment. If your practice is broader than your policy describes, the cover is weakest at precisely that point.
What is never included: fines from the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (the Dutch data protection authority), deliberate acts under Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code, disappointment at a goal not achieved, and work outside your declared area of operation. For the business version, see liability for coaches.
We compare your personal liability insurance (AVP) across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
An ice bath, a breathing session, a walk over uneven ground, an exercise where someone has their eyes closed: those are the moments when a programme leads to injury. Ask about medical issues in advance, give instructions and record that you did so. If you hire a venue, you have it in your care and damage to the room itself is excluded on the standard policy. Arrange that separately if you hire regularly.
The policy states what you are insured for. If you add dietary advice, supplements, body-oriented trauma techniques or a form of therapy, your work shifts towards healthcare and falls outside the description. That is not only a question of cover: you also enter a legal framework that is not designed for coaches. Report any extension of what you offer before you start it, not when the first complaint comes.
Coaching is an obligation to use best efforts: you undertake to work carefully, not that a goal will be reached. Someone who did not find a job or did not save a relationship does not have a claim on that basis alone. That changes when your website or quotation promises a result. It then becomes an obligation to achieve a result and failure is culpable. Check your texts for that and describe in the contract what you do and do not undertake.
Notes about relationships, health, bereavement or financial worries fall under the GDPR and sometimes under its most sensitive category. If they get out, nothing is damaged and nobody is injured, but there is a loss: that is financial loss and sometimes a cyber risk, not a liability claim in the ordinary sense. A regulator's fine is also not insurable. Keep notes encrypted and no longer than necessary.
This is what people ask us most.
Not automatically. Many policies assume conversations and do not mention physical exercises, or exclude them as a hazardous activity. State exactly what you do when you apply. That is the duty of disclosure under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code. If you add such an element later, report it during the policy term. If it turns out not to have been reported when a claim arises, the payment can be reduced or refused.
In principle not. Coaching is an obligation to use best efforts. You are bound to work carefully, not to deliver an outcome. That changes if you promised a result in your quotation, on your website or in an advertisement. Word those carefully and set out in your contract what the client may and may not expect.
Yes, and often in the most sensitive category, because they contain information about health or personal circumstances. A data breach does not produce property damage or injury but financial loss, and separate cover or a cyber module is needed for that. A fine from the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens is not insurable. Limit what you record, encrypt it and clear out old files.
Only if your area of operation allows it. Many policies cover only activities in the Netherlands as standard, sometimes in Europe. A retreat elsewhere then falls outside that, even if the participants are Dutch. Declare the destination area in advance and ask for written confirmation. Also settle who is responsible for the venue and for local transport.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
