Liability
- Damage to third parties
- Employers' liability
- Care, custody and control as an extension
In a tyre business the two biggest risks lie in a store that is almost impossible to extinguish once alight, and in the wheel bolts you tighten.

Rubber burns hot, long and with dense black smoke. A fire in a tyre store therefore rarely stays within the rack where it starts: soot settles on contents, stock and the neighbours' building. Insurers translate that into underwriting conditions on the number of tyres per compartment, the height of the racking and the separation between store and workshop.
The second risk is the fitting itself. A wheel bolt not tightened to specification can work loose long after your invoice, causing damage and injury at the roadside. That is a wrongful act within the meaning of Article 6:162 of the Dutch Civil Code. The consequential damage is usually covered, but the tyre and the rim you fitted yourself normally fall outside the cover as the item worked on.
Seasonal storage comes on top of that. During changeover periods you have complete sets belonging to customers on your premises. That property is in your in your care and is excluded without a separate module. We set the care, custody and control limit to your peak stock rather than your average. See also the structure of the garage insurance.
We compare your motor trade insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
A wheel that comes loose can almost always be traced back to fitting: the wrong bolts, a torque setting that differs from specification or no retorque arrangement. The consequential damage to the vehicle and to third parties can be recovered under the liability cover, but the cost of the tyre, the rim and the further work you supplied yourself falls outside the policy as damage to the item worked on. Record the torque setting and the retorque advice on the job sheet.
The policy schedule almost always states how many tyres you may store and where, with requirements on compartmentation and on separation from the workshop. If you stack tyres outside against the wall or start filling a second space, you are departing from the situation declared and payment can be limited in the event of fire. Report any extension of your storage before you bring it into use.
Winter sets you keep belong to your customer and are in your care. Without a care, custody and control module, no section pays for their replacement after fire, theft or water damage. Because during changeover periods that stock is several times your own trading stock, the limit must be set at that peak. Keep records for each customer; when you claim, that is your only evidence of the amounts involved.
If you go out to breakdowns on truck or agricultural tyres, your fitters are working at the roadside or on a yard. Liability insurance excludes damage caused with or by motor vehicles. The compulsory cover under Article 2 WAM applies to the service van instead. For injury to your own fitter in traffic, additional road traffic cover is needed, because the AVB does not cover it.
This is what people ask us most.
Only with a care, custody and control module and within its limit. This is third parties' property in your care, and that is excluded as standard on liability cover. Because the quantity stored rises sharply during changeover periods, you must base the limit on the peak. Declare seasonal storage separately in your application.
Reality then differs from the situation on which the insurer accepted the risk. In the event of fire that can lead to a reduced or refused payment, because the quantity stored is a condition on the policy schedule. Reporting an extension costs a premium adjustment. Not reporting it can cost you the whole fire claim.
Usually not. Damage to the item you supplied or worked on is excluded on virtually every liability policy. That is a business risk and not an insurable loss. What goes wrong afterwards is another matter: damage to the vehicle and to third parties caused by the wheel coming loose is covered in principle.
Third-party liability for the driving itself runs through Article 2 WAM and belongs to the motor policy, not to the liability section. Tools and equipment in the van can fall under the contents cover or separate tools cover, but only if the van has been declared as a storage location and meets the security requirements imposed.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
