The difference between a truck workshop and an ordinary garage is not just the size of the lift. It is that the consequences of an assembly error occur away from your premises, at high speed and with a great deal of mass. A wheel that comes off after a tyre change, a brake line that is not properly connected, a tipping ram that gives way: that means injury to third parties, and you are liable for it under Article 6:162 of the Dutch Civil Code, and for your mechanics' errors under Article 6:170 of the Dutch Civil Code.
On top of that, your workshop permanently holds many times the value of a car business. A tractor unit with a trailer, a refrigerated combination or a crane truck is a single item; three of them side by side on a busy morning is where a standard care, custody and control limit from an ordinary motor trade policy falls short. That limit must match what is inside at a peak moment, not one vehicle.
The third point is the loss your customer suffers without anything of theirs being damaged. A truck standing idle for two extra days costs journeys, contractual penalties and sometimes a hire replacement. Such pure financial loss without physical damage is not covered under the liability section, however convincing the haulier's invoice may look.
We compare your motor trade insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThe structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.
Third-party liability insurance is compulsory by law and covers damage you cause to others with your car, not damage to your own car.
Alongside third-party liability cover, protection against damage to your own car from external causes you cannot prevent.
The most complete cover, including for damage you cause yourself, theft and total loss. We compare Ansvar Idea's comprehensive version with the market.

This overview concerns our service, not the cover. What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and on the insurer's insurance card (verzekeringskaart); you receive both before you take out cover.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Wheel loss after a tyre change is the best-known major claim in this trade. Work with a calibrated torque wrench, record the prescribed torque setting for each axle, and record that the customer has been instructed to have the wheel nuts retorquedafter an agreed distance. Unless that instruction is recorded in writing or on the job sheet, the full blame rests with you as soon as the wheel goes into the verge.
A tractor unit with a trailer, a refrigeration unit or a loader crane represents many times the value of a car. Assess your limit on the basis of a full workshop: what is inside and outside on the busiest day, including vehicles waiting for parts. Consider the test drive as well; damage to the customer's vehicle during that drive falls under care, custody and control, while damage to a third party falls under the road risk.
If a loaded trailer is on your premises and the refrigeration fails because of an error in your work, spoilage of that load is damage to a third party's property that you had in your care. The care, custody and control cover usually covers the vehicle, not the load, and many policies expressly exclude goods being carried. Agree that trailers are presented empty, or have cover for loads on board written expressly into the policy.
If you repair vehicles on the verge or on a business site, your mechanic is working alongside moving traffic. Your duty of care under Article 7:658 of the Dutch Civil Code calls for documented arrangements on coning off, high-visibility clothing and refusing unsafe situations. Declare mobile servicing separately in your application as well: with a number of insurers, working away from your own workshop falls not under the standard description of the business activities.
This is what people ask us most.
Injury and property damage to third parties falls under the liability section of the motor trade policy, provided the risk has been declared. Repair of your customer's vehicle runs through care, custody and control. What you bear yourself is redoing your own work. Your record of the torque setting and the retorque instruction determines whether any defence remains against the extent of the blame.
Only where there is also covered property damage from which that downtime follows. If the delay is purely the result of a planning error or a late delivery, there is no physical damage and therefore no cover. Contractual penalties your customer incurs from their own client, and passes on to you, fall outside the policy. Include a limitation of liability on that point in your own terms and conditions.
That depends on the clauses. For vehicles kept outside there are often requirements on fencing, lighting, camera surveillance and key management, and sometimes a lower limit than indoors. Report it if you structurally keep more vehicles outside than you declared when taking out the policy; otherwise the duty of disclosure under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code comes into play at claim stage and the payment can be reduced.
Yes. Testing means issuing a certificate and that carries a liability of its own, separate from your repair work. A missed defect can lead to injury and sometimes to purely financial loss, and the latter does not fall under the liability section. Declare inspection work separately; see motor trade insurance for MOT testing stations.
