In brief

This policy is separate from your household package. That is the reason to choose it: you insure the equipment where it actually is, not where it is supposed to be. Most losses arise during transport: a bag that comes off the carousel with a bent shaft, a trolley that falls off a tail lift, a set taken from a parked car.

With this policy we look above all at three things: the territorial limits, the treatment of an electric trolley and the question of who else is named on the policy. For golfers whose set is almost always at home, a module within a package often makes more sense. We make that comparison with the Bewust golf insurance from Ansvar Idea.

Damage you cause to a third party with a ball does not belong here but on your personal liability insurance.

Independent, personal, sorted quickly

We compare your golf insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Through Finass or direct with Turien & Co?

The structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.

Basic cover

The basic cover insures the core of your golf insurance. We show what Turien & Co and other insurers offer within it.

  • Theft of clubs & bag
  • Damage to equipment
  • Fire & burglary at home
  • Cover on the golf course

Extended cover

On top of that to the basic cover, also protection against loss of equipment, hired and borrowed clubs and golf trips worldwide.

  • Loss of equipment
  • Hired and borrowed equipment
  • Cover in the clubhouse
  • Worldwide cover

Complete package

The most complete cover. We compare the extended version from Turien & Co with the market.

  • Golf trips
  • Golf liability
  • Hole-in-one cover
  • Accidents on the course

This overview concerns our service, not the cover. What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and on the insurer's insurance card (verzekeringskaart); you receive both before you take out cover.

What does your premium depend on?

  • Total value of the equipment. Clubs, bag, trolley and accessories together determine the sum insured.
  • Area of cover. Europe or worldwide; golf trips outside Europe increase the risk of damage in transit.
  • Electric trolley on the policy. A powered trolley counts for more than a hand cart or a carry bag.
  • Number of insured persons. If your partner or child plays with their own set, the insured interest goes up.
  • Including loss in the cover. Loss without theft or an accident is an extension and is not included in every variant.
  • Excess and claims history. Earlier claims and the excess you choose per event both feed through into the premium.

Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.

Where things go wrong in practice

Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.

Air travel: first the carrier, then the policy

If your bag comes off the belt damaged, the airline is the first port of call. Report the damage before you leave the arrivals hall and keep the report. Without that document a claim later rarely succeeds. In practice the insurer pays what the carrier leaves unpaid. A rigid travel cover or a hard case is not a formal requirement, but it saves argument about whether you acted carefully enough.

Electric trolley, battery and golf buggy

An electric trolley is an expensive part of the set and deserves a separate entry on the policy schedule. Excluded is usually damage caused by a defective or leaking battery, by charging with an unsuitable charger, and by inherent defect in the drive. If you damage a hired golf buggy belonging to the course, that is not damage to your own equipment but liability for property in your care. That claim does not go through this policy.

Theft from a car and from a locker

The set is often in the car for longer than it is on the course. Almost all policy conditions require the car to be locked, the bag to be out of sight and there to be signs of forced entry. Theft from an unlocked locker, from an open passenger seat or from a trolley you left unattended by the clubhouse bar falls outside the cover. Always report it to the police: the police report is your number one piece of evidence.

Amateur use is the starting point

The policy assumes recreational play and club competitions. If you earn your living from golf — as a teaching pro, as a player in prize-money competitions or by hiring out equipment — that is professional use and the equipment belongs on a commercial policy. If you fail to disclose that at the outset, the insurer can rely on the Articles 7:928 and 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code and reduce or refuse the payout.

Frequently asked questions

This is what people ask us most.

Is my set covered in the hold of the aircraft?

Yes, damage in transit falls within the cover, but you first report the damage to the airline and have a report drawn up at the airport. Without that report it is difficult to establish later when the damage arose. The insurer tops up what the carrier does not pay. It does not take the carrier's place.

Does the policy also apply to my partner and children?

Only if their equipment is named on the policy schedule. A golf policy is a property insurance: what is insured is the equipment that has been declared, not every family member who happens to play along. If your partner plays with their own set, declare it separately. We prefer to put the sets on one policy with one sum insured.

My shaft broke during the swing. Will I be paid for that?

Usually not. Breakage without any external cause is treated as inherent defect or metal fatigue and is excluded. If the club breaks because you drive over it with the car or because the bag falls off the trolley, there is a sudden event and the insurer will consider the claim on its merits.

What if I damage a hired golf buggy?

That is liability for property that was in your care. The golf policy covers your own equipment, not the course's equipment. Whether the damage is paid depends on the care, custody and control cover on your personal liability insurance and on the club's hire conditions.
