Hobby and sports equipment goes out of the house and is used for what it was made for, and it is precisely during that use that the damage arises for which this policy exists.

A racing bicycle, a set of golf clubs, diving equipment, a musical instrument, angling gear or a climbing set rarely stands still at home. The kit is in the car, lies on a sports field, hangs on a climbing wall or travels on the plane. On an ordinary home contents policy all of that is away from the home and therefore covered only to a limited extent. The hobby and sports equipment insurance through Turien & Co moves those items into a section of their own, with cover in the place where they are used.
The distinctive word in this product is use. The focus is not on the purchase value, but on whether damage during the sport or hobby is included: a broken frame after a fall, a damaged instrument case after a performance, a torn drysuit. That is a different question from valuables, where it is about value and valuation.
We compare three things across providers: whether damage from use is included, whether competitions and training fall under the cover, and what storage requirements apply when the equipment is in a car, boot or store. Those are the three points on which conditions in the market differ most.
We compare your valuables insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThe structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.
The basic cover insures the core of your hobby and sports equipment insurance. We show what Turien & Co and other insurers offer within it.
As well as the basic cover, also protection against loss, damage and theft away from home, including from external causes.
The most complete cover. We compare the extended version from Turien & Co with the market.
What is covered
| Situation | Extended | Comprehensive |
|---|---|---|
| Fire, smoke and water damage in the home | Yes | Yes |
| Theft after forced entry | Yes | Yes |
| Knocks and falls at home | No | Yes |
| Loss or theft away from home | Provided that | Provided that |
| Damage during transport, repair or exhibition | Provided that | Provided that |
| Wear, shrinkage, damp and insect damage | No | No |
A home contents policy has sub-limits: for jewellery, audiovisual equipment and collections a lower limit applies than for the rest of the contents. If your items exceed that, you insure them separately on a valuables policy, usually on the basis of a valuation (7:960 DCC). Underinsurance leads to a proportionately lower payout.

This overview concerns our service, not the cover. What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and on the insurer's insurance card (verzekeringskaart); you receive both before you take out cover.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
A policy that covers only fire, theft and water damage does not help you with the damage you cause most often: a fall from your racing bicycle, a hit against the boards, an instrument that falls off its stand. Look in the conditions for the wording about damage during the activity. If it is missing, the policy is in effect theft cover and nothing more.
Many conditions distinguish between recreational use and taking part in competitions or leagues. If you ride criteriums, enter tournaments or sail regattas, that participation may be excluded or may call for a separate endorsement. Tell us how you practise the sport, not only what equipment you have; that determines whether the declared description matches what you actually do.
Theft from a parked car is almost always subject to conditions: stored out of sight, signs of forced entry, sometimes a restriction to daytime or to a short break in a journey. A bicycle carrier on the back usually does not count as a locked space. Keep proofs of purchase and frame numbers, because without identification of the stolen item a claim often gets no further than an argument about value.
The following are generally outside the cover: wear and tear, metal fatigue and design faults; damage consisting only of scratches or paint damage without loss of function; the loss of loose parts such as a shoe, a pin or a cap; hiring out or commercial use of the equipment; and damage from inadequate maintenance, for example a diving cylinder that has not been tested. Electric drive systems and batteries also often have an arrangement of their own.
This is what people ask us most.
Partly. At home the equipment falls under the contents, but away from the home a limited section usually applies with a low maximum and no cover for damage during use. Anyone with an expensive bicycle or a complete diving suit will not get by on that. We compare what your current home contents policy actually does away from the home before you take out anything extra.
No. Separate requirements apply to e-bikes and speed pedelecs: an approved lock, often two keys in the event of theft, sometimes a tracker, and a separate arrangement for battery damage. The maximum speed also counts towards whether the vehicle is classed as a moped. We check that in advance, so that you are not insured under the wrong section.
That depends on the territory chosen. Worldwide cover is usual on this product as an extension, but often with a maximum duration per trip and with its own requirements for carriage as hold luggage. Any amount the airline pays is also deducted. So tell us in advance about trips with the equipment.
Lending within the private sphere is usually not a problem, as long as you remain the owner and no payment is involved. As soon as you hire out regularly or lend for payment, it becomes commercial use and the cover lapses. If the borrower damages your equipment, his liability also comes into play under Article 6:162 of the Dutch Civil Code.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
