In brief

Finass acts as an intermediary with Klaverblad for business non-life insurance and compares it objectively with what other insurers offer. A business package bundles separate sections under one policy number: liability, buildings, contents and goods, business interruption, electronics, motor vehicles and legal expenses. The convenience lies in one start date and one bill. The risk lies in the assumption that everything is in the package, while each section has its own description, its own sum insured and its own list of exclusions.

In the light of transport that is concrete. A business contents and goods insurance covers what is at the address on the policy schedule. As soon as those same items are in a van, that is transport and you need the transport of your own goods section. If it is not included, there is no cover, however complete the package may otherwise look. That is the most common gap among business owners who are on the road with materials.

Note too the boundary between liability and advice. liability insurance for businesses covers injury and damage to property suffered by third parties. A claim about incorrect advice or a fault in a delivery without any damaged property is pure financial loss and belongs on a professional indemnity insurance. The full range offered by this insurer is set out on the page Klaverblad.

This page deals with one situation. The full overview is on Compare goods in transit insurance.

The same independent view, whatever insurer

We work with dozens of insurers and choose whichever fits your situation best — not whichever pays us the most. That means advice built around you, not around one brand.

Why arrange it through Finass Verzekert?

We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.

Independent

We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.

One fixed adviser

You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.

Switching without hassle

We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.

Help with claims

We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.

What to look out for

Four points that go wrong more often on a business package than the level of the premium.

Every section has its own list of exclusions

Exclusions apply per section and not per package. Intent is excluded everywhere under Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code, but on top of that the buildings section has its own provisions on voids, the goods section on disappearance without forced entry, and the transport section on where a vehicle is kept. Read them separately. A summary product sheet does not show that difference.

Business interruption is often forgotten

After a fire or a burglary the property section pays for the items, not for the weeks in which you cannot produce or deliver. Without business interruption cover you carry the continuing costs and the lost gross profit yourself. Choose the indemnity period on the time you really need to be back at your previous level, including permits and delivery times.

Reporting changes in your business

A new activity, an extra site, a change in the composition of your turnover or taking on staff changes the risk. Report it, even if the package otherwise stays the same. The duty of disclosure in Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code and the consequences of an incorrect statement in Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code apply per section and work through into the payment.

Administrative fines and cyber losses

Fines and penalty payments are excluded on almost every non-life insurance, because they are a penalty and not compensation for loss. The costs of a data breach, ransomware and restoring systems are also not standard in a business package. Separate cyber cover is needed for that, which is accepted and assessed separately.

What does your premium depend on?

  • Sections chosen: every section has its own premium basis
  • Sector and activities: decisive for acceptance and the rate
  • Turnover and payroll: the usual measures for liability
  • Sums insured per section: contents, goods, buildings and transport separately
  • Prevention and security: clauses on alarms, fire suppression and locking up
  • Claims record: earlier claims count at renewal

Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.

A package covers nothing of itself: what matters is which sections have actually been included in it.

Frequently asked questions

This is what people ask us most.

Is a package cheaper than separate policies?

Often it does save something, through a package discount and one policy fee. The difference is usually small and does not outweigh a section that does not fit. If it is worthwhile placing one part with another insurer because the conditions there fit better, that is the better choice. We calculate both versions before you decide.

Is the transport of goods automatically included in the package?

No. Transport is a separate section that you have to have included actively. Without that section, material in a van or on a trailer is not covered, even though the same contents at your business address are on the policy. If you are on the road every day with tools or trading goods, check expressly that this section appears on your policy schedule.

What happens where another policy covers the same loss?

If two insurances cover the same loss, almost every policy has a contribution provision that steps its own cover back behind the other. So you are not paid twice; Article 7:960 of the Dutch Civil Code prohibits a payment that puts you in a clearly better position. Duplicate cover therefore only costs premium and produces nothing extra.

Can I cancel one section without the whole package?

Usually yes, as at the contract renewal date and observing the notice period in the conditions. Note, though, that dropping a section can affect the package discount and that some sections are linked to each other, such as buildings and business interruption. Have the consequences calculated before you drop a part.
