Third-party liability
- Required by law
- As long as the registration is in your name
- Suspend the registration when not in use
An Alpina is not a tuned BMW but a car from a manufacturer in its own right, and that is precisely what makes valuation and acceptance the main issue on this insurance.

Alpina builds on a BMW base under its own type approval and with its own chassis number. The cars get a modified drivetrain, their own suspension settings, their own wheels and their own finish, and leave the factory in small numbers. In law that is not an after-market modification, but applications do come unstuck on it: the model is missing from many insurers' standard tables and the application has to be assessed by hand.
That shifts the conversation from the premium to the value. On a car that is rarely traded, the market value is not a fixed figure. We therefore often work with a agreed value valuation: an expert establishes the value in advance and that value applies when you claim. Article 7:960 DCC provides that you may not profit from a general insurance policy. A valuation report prevents that argument from only starting after a collision. Note the period of validity of the report.
The second sticking point is repair. Alpina-specific parts such as the wheels, springs, steering wheel and striping do not come through the ordinary parts channel. The delivery time and price of those parts help determine whether a loss adjuster opts for repair or for a total loss. What own-damage cover does and does not include is set out on our page about comprehensive cover.
We compare your car insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Online rating tools usually only know the BMW base model. If the car is insured on that basis, the policy shows too low a value and the wrong rating group, and a reduced payout follows. Always give the registration number and the exact model designation when you apply, and have the insurer confirm in writing which vehicle has been accepted. We prefer to put applications like these to companies that offer manual underwriting.
With low production numbers the market value varies and there is little to compare with. An agreed valuation by a recognised expert fixes the value and makes argument afterwards unnecessary. Such a report does have a period of validity set out in the policy conditions; once it expires, you fall back on the market value. Have the car revalued when the period ends or when you have had costly original parts replaced.
A damaged Alpina wheel, a particular spoiler set or an interior part is not available from stock. If the repair estimate rises above the agreed value as a result, the loss adjuster will declare the car a total loss, even where the damage is limited. Discuss in advance whether the policy allows repair by a specialist of your choosing and whether used original parts may be fitted; those two agreements make the difference here.
A valuation report changes nothing about the exclusions. Wear, a failed turbo or transmission and any loss of value after a repair remain outside the cover. The same applies to driving on a circuit, to taking part in speed and manoeuvring events and to damage caused with intent or recklessness within the meaning of Article 7:952 DCC. Hire or use for payment also falls outside a private policy.
This is what people ask us most.
It often happens, but it is unwise. The policy then shows a different vehicle from the one you own, with a lower value and a lower rating group. After a claim the loss adjuster will establish the actual vehicle and the insurer may adjust the payout. Give the registration number and the full model designation, and have the acceptance confirmed in writing.
Because few examples of this model are traded and the market value is therefore hard to support. With an agreed valuation the value is fixed before anything happens. Without a report the loss adjuster only sets the figure after the damage, based on comparisons that barely exist. Do note the report's period of validity.
The repair estimate rises through delivery time and price. If that estimate exceeds the agreed value, a total loss follows and the insurer pays the valued amount less the salvage value. If you want to keep the car, agree in advance that used original parts may be fitted and that you may buy back the remains.
No. Driving on a circuit is excluded under virtually all conditions, including at a private event without timing. For such a day there is separate day cover that you have to arrange in advance. You cannot register after the event. Touring runs on public roads without a timed element usually fall outside this and remain normally insured.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
