In brief

Finass Verzekert is a trade name of Finass Advies B.V., an independent insurance brokerage with a AFM licence for advice and intermediary services in general insurance. We are tied to no company and, with an application, set the offerings of several insurers side by side. In reality, working together means we become your portfolio manager: we review the existing policies, make changes, monitor renewal dates and act as the file holder when there is a claim.

There are broadly three forms. As the regular adviser to a business we administer your commercial policies and check periodically whether the cover still matches your contracts and your activities. With an arrangement for members or employees we agree a fixed route through which participants can arrange their insurance. Each participant receives their own policy and participation remains voluntary. As a referrer — an estate agent, accountant, contractor or financial adviser — you hand over the insurance side to us, with a division of roles agreed in advance.

What working together does not change: the insurer decides on acceptance, premium and payment itself. We can substantiate an application and guide a claim, but cannot promise cover. Our remuneration, our licence number, the complaints route via Kifid (the financial services complaints institute) and the difference between advice and execution only are described in our service guide. For the commercial product lines, start at public and employers' liability and insurance for SMEs.

This page deals with one situation. The full overview is on Compare personal liability insurance (AVP).

The same independent view, whatever insurer

We work with dozens of insurers and choose whichever fits your situation best — not whichever pays us the most. That means advice built around you, not around one brand.

Why arrange it through Finass Verzekert?

We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.

Independent

We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.

One fixed adviser

You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.

Switching without hassle

We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.

Help with claims

We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.

What a partnership does and does not arrange

Four commitments that determine what you may expect from our office.

We advise, the insurer accepts

An intermediary can present and substantiate a risk, but cannot accept it. An assurance about cover given by us does not bind the insurer. What binds is the policy schedule with the conditions. The insurer also decides on claims. We run the file, supply the documents and challenge the insurer where a position does not follow from the conditions.

The declaration remains your responsibility

We ask the questions, but the answers come from you. The duty of disclosure under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code rests on the policyholder. If an activity, a claims history or an earlier policy cancellation is missing from the declaration, the insurer can, under Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code reduce or refuse payment, even if an adviser submitted the application.

What we do not do

We provide no credit and no guarantees, we do not act as an underwriting agent accepting risks or paying claims on an insurer's behalf, and we give no legal advice in a current dispute; legal expenses insurance or a lawyer is the appropriate route for that. Nor do we give an opinion on the tax consequences of a structure.

Ending the partnership

You can terminate the administration mandate and have your portfolio transferred to another firm. The policies then simply continue with the insurer. With liability cover on a claims-madebasis this is a point to watch: arrange run-off cover before you end a policy, not afterwards.

What does your premium depend on?

  • Nature of the work: the risk of your sector is the basis
  • Turnover and payroll: the usual bases for commercial cover
  • Sums insured: per claim and per insurance year
  • Excess: a higher excess lowers the premium
  • Claims history: number and size of previous claims
  • Number of policies together: package benefit with one insurer

Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.

Frequently asked questions

This is what people ask us most.

What does working together mean in practice?

We become your regular adviser: we review the existing policies, compare the offerings of several insurers and place the applications with the company that fits. After that we process changes, monitor the renewal dates and guide claims. You have one point of contact for this and a recorded agreement on the division of roles.

Which insurer are you tied to?

None. We are under no obligation to place part of our business with one company, which makes an objective comparison possible. Which insurer is appropriate in a given case follows from the cover required, the acceptance policy and the conditions. You can read more about our office under about Finass Verzekert.

What does it cost to work with you?

For general insurance we generally work on a commission basis: the remuneration is included in the premium and there is no separate invoice for advice and intermediary services. If we agree a fee on an hourly basis for particular work, we record that in writing in advance. The form is described in our services guide.

We refer customers to you. Who is then the adviser?

Your customer remains the policyholder and makes their own choice. We act as adviser for the insurance side and report back on the application, within the limits of privacy law and with the customer's consent. We record the division of roles and the reporting back in advance, so that it is clear who is answerable for what.
