In brief
The work starts with the an inventory. What assets do you have, what liability do you run, what happens financially if you are out of action for a year, and which obligations are already fixed in a tenancy, mortgage or deed of division. From that follows which cover is needed, and equally which is not. A policy that overlaps with another costs premium without giving you anything in return; two contents policies at the same address lead, at claim time, to an apportionment between insurers rather than a double payout.
Then comes the broking. Finass Advies is an independent broker and puts your application to the insurers whose acceptance policy and conditions suit your situation. We compare on differences in cover: the care, custody and control provision, the excess, the depreciation method, the family members covered and the clauses that appear on the policy schedule. What you choose is then set out in the policy conditions.
The third part is the administration: processing changes, checking renewals, flagging underinsurance and, when you claim, guiding the file towards the insurer. Changes and cancellations run via customer service, a claim via report a claim. Our role, our remuneration and the complaints route are described in the service guide.
This page deals with one situation. The full overview is on Compare personal liability insurance (AVP).
The same independent view, whatever insurer
We work with dozens of insurers and choose whichever fits your situation best — not whichever pays us the most. That means advice built around you, not around one brand.
Insurers
Independent
AdviceWhy arrange it through Finass Verzekert?
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
Independent
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
One fixed adviser
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
Switching without hassle
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
Help with claims
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
What we do, and what we do not
Four boundaries that should be clear in advance, so that you know who decides what.
We advise, the insurer accepts
We can substantiate an application and put it to several insurers, but the acceptance decision lies with the insurer. Where there is a claims history, an earlier cancellation or an unusual risk, a refusal is rarely the end: another provider applies a different policy, sometimes with a clause or an increased excess.
We do not decide on your payout
When you claim we make the notification, gather the documents and conduct the discussion with the claims handler. The decision comes from the insurer and rests on the policy conditions. If in our view that decision is wrong, we substantiate the objection; but we cannot remove an exclusion.
Where cover stops in any event
Whichever insurer it becomes, damage caused intentionally (Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code), war risks and nuclear reactions and damage caused by wear, deferred maintenance or a design fault stay outside the cover. Nor can an event that was already going on before the policy started be insured after the fact.
Outside our remit
We are not an insurer, not a legal expenses provider and not a tax adviser or accountant. For legal assistance in a dispute there is legal expenses insurance; for tax or accounting questions we refer you to your own adviser. What does fall within the broking assignment is set out in the general terms and conditions.
What does your premium depend on?
- Type of cover chosen: wider cover means a higher premium
- Sum insured: the maximum payout per event or per year
- Excess: a higher excess lowers the premium
- Risk profile: address, use, occupation and age, depending on the product
- Claims history: earlier claims count towards acceptance and premium
- Size of the package: several policies with one insurer can earn a discount
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
What is arranged
| Situation | At Finass Verzekert | With the provider |
|---|---|---|
| Your renewal invoice is checked before the new policy year starts | Yes | No |
| After refurbishment it is flagged that your sum insured is no longer right | Yes | No |
| After a refusal your application goes to an insurer with a different acceptance policy | Yes | No |
| You want to change your cover or cancel the policy mid-year | Yes | Yes |
| You put your cover together online yourself and take it out without a conversation | Provided that | Yes |
| A loss that arose before the start date is dealt with after all | No | No |
The policy conditions are the same in both cases. The difference lies in who is still looking at it the following year.
Frequently asked questions
This is what people ask us most.
What does the advice cost?
For general insurance we are usually remunerated through commission built into the premium. For certain forms of service we work with a fixed fee. Which form of remuneration applies in your case is something you hear before you instruct us. The precise description is set out in the service guide, together with our licence number and the complaints procedure.
Do you really compare all insurers?
We compare the offerings of more than thirty insurers objectively. Not every insurer works with brokers and not every insurer accepts every risk, so the selection depends on what you need. We explain why a particular provider comes out on top, so that you can follow the choice and do not just see the outcome.
Can I place only the administration with you?
You can. With a continuing authority we become the point of contact at your current insurers, without existing policies being taken out again. The cover, start date and no-claims years built up stay as they are. After that we go through the file for double cover, outdated sums insured and clauses that no longer suit your situation.
Who do you work for, private or business clients?
Both, and in addition for self-employed professionals, VvEs and property owners. The content differs considerably: for a private client it revolves around the home, liability and transport, for a business around liability towards third parties, business interruption and staff. The method stays the same: first map the risk, then compare the conditions.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
