Arrange winter sports cover
- A separate module or winter sports days
- Also for a single week
- Health insurance remains the basis
Mogul skiing takes place on a marked mogul piste and is therefore included in ordinary winter sports cover with most insurers. The jumps and competition involvement are the sensitive point.

Mogul skiing is skiing down a mogul piste: short turns, plenty of impact and heavy loading on the knees and back. The terrain is marked and managed, and that is precisely what sets it apart from off-piste disciplines. Recreational mogul skiing therefore usually falls within the winter sports cover on a travel insurance.
The exceptions are in the detail. If you jump the kickers built into many mogul pistes, the sport moves into the category of freestyle, which many policies exclude separately. The same applies to competitions and the training for them and to mogul fields off the marked piste. Ask in writing before departure what is included.
We compare your travel insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThree things determine your cover: the winter sports module, the type of terrain and whether you jump or race.
Without that module, skiing in any form is excluded.
Within the piste you are insured, outside it usually not.
Call the emergency assistance centre before you incur any costs.
What is covered
| Situation | Standard | With extension |
|---|---|---|
| Medical expenses after a knee injury on the piste | Yes | Yes |
| Recreational skiing on an open mogul piste | Yes | Yes |
| Jumps over kickers in the mogul piste | Provided that | Yes |
| A mogul field off the marked piste | No | Provided that |
| Competitions and training for them | No | Provided that |
| Rehabilitation treatment without valid health insurance | No | No |
What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) that you receive before you take out cover.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Two points that determine whether your policy pays after an injury.
Medical expenses abroad run first through your basic health insurance; the travel insurance tops up what comes on top of that, such as the difference in rate, recovery costs and repatriation. Without valid health insurance, little is left. A knee injury on a mogul piste often leads to surgery and adapted transport home: have the emergency assistance centre in advance arrange that.
As soon as you use the kickers in the mogul piste, the policy speaks of freestyle or acrobatic skiing, and that is excluded by many insurers. Taking part in races, the training for them and practice for payment are also standard exclusions. Even where the cover remains in place, Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Codestill applies: with reckless conduct, such as skiing on a closed piste, the claim falls away.
This is what people ask us most.
Usually not. It takes place on a marked piste and therefore counts as ordinary winter sport. Only with jumps, competitions or mogul fields off the piste does the sport move into a higher risk category and an extension is needed.
The travel insurance pays medical expenses as a supplement to your basic health insurance. Without that basis there is in practice no cover. Follow-up treatment in the Netherlands runs through your health insurance, not through the travel policy.
Then you do not ski there. If you do it anyway, the insurer relies on recklessness under Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code and on the exclusion for terrain off the open piste. Rescue and recovery costs are then at your expense.
Theft and transport damage are often covered by the luggage section, with a limit per item. Breakage while actually skiing is usually excluded. For hired skis the hirer's arrangement applies; check the deposit and the excess under it.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
Have it recorded before departure what is included. We find out which insurer accepts jumps and competitions.
