With Hublot the question after a loss turns on repairability: ceramic, carbon and sapphire cannot be polished out or touched up, so a scratch usually means a replacement.

Hublot builds cases from materials that behave differently from steel or gold. Ceramic is hard but brittle, sapphire is scratch-resistant but breaks under a point load, and carbon and composites cannot be welded or refinished. Where a steel case is polished after a fall, here a part has to be replaced. That shifts the conversation after a loss from repair to supply: is the part available and what does it cost.
Then there is the construction. The case is built up from layers held together with screws and seals, with an integrated rubber or textile strap. If one element is damaged, the whole assembly has to come apart. Repair therefore almost always runs through the brand's own workshop, and that determines the lead time. When you take out the policy, have it recorded whether the insurer repairs in kind or pays out, because you only notice that difference when you claim.
The third point is the total loss threshold. Once the cost of repair approaches the valued amount, the insurer declares the watch a total loss and pays the valuation figure. With a brand whose parts are expensive, that threshold is reached sooner than you would expect. An up-to-date valuation report as referred to in Article 7:960 of the Dutch Civil Code is therefore not just a formality here but the basis on which that decision is calculated.
We compare your valuables insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
A polished steel case can be saved, a ceramic one cannot: it is too hard to work on and will crack sooner than dent. Sapphire can break from a single knock on a corner while remaining otherwise impervious to scratches. So when you report a loss, state exactly where the impact landed. With these materials that determines whether one part or the whole case is involved.
Many valuables policies give the insurer the right to choose between repairing, replacing or paying out. With a brand that only repairs through its own workshop, that means waiting time and sometimes a repair whose result remains visible. Ask in advance how that choice is worded in the conditions and whether you are entitled to repair by the brand rather than by a general watchmaker.
As soon as repair threatens to cost more than the agreed value, settlement is on a total loss basis. With expensive case parts, damage that looks limited can already reach that threshold. So make sure the valuation report is up to date and describes the exact specification, including material and reference. An outdated report here means not only too small a payout but also a wrongly calculated assessment.
Scratches and marks of use that arise from normal wearing are not sudden damage. Wear of the rubber strap, the clasp and the seals is a matter of maintenance. Water damage after the water resistance has no longer been tested is regarded as deferred maintenance. And if you have the case opened by an unauthorised party, both the cover and the valuation figure may be called into question.
The striking design attracts attention; wearing clauses are usual here. Above a certain amount it almost always applies that the watch must be in the safe when you are not wearing it, sometimes with a requirement for an alarm connected to a monitoring centre. After a theft that is the first thing you are asked about, and it is the most common reason for refusal.
Ceramic and sapphire parts cannot be repaired but only replaced, with long delivery times. Keep the invoice, the box, the papers and the serial number, and photograph everything. After a loss the first question is whether the watch existed and what it was worth; keep that file digitally and not only at home.
This is what people ask us most.
Only where it was caused by a sudden event, for example a fall or a knock. Marks of use that appear gradually are covered nowhere. With these materials the difference matters, because repair is not an option: the part is replaced. So when you notify the claim, describe exactly what happened and when, and add photographs of the damage.
Settlement is then on a total loss basis, up to the valued amount. With expensive case parts that threshold is reached sooner than with a steel watch. The damaged watch then usually becomes the property of the insurer. An up-to-date report under Article 7:960 of the Dutch Civil Code then determines what you receive.
That is not advisable. These cases require specialist tools and parts that are only available through the brand. A repair outside the authorised network can depress the value and lead to disputes about the cause at the next claim. When you have a loss, discuss it with the insurer first. The insurer usually nominates a repairer.
Only if the water resistance was demonstrably in order. Seals age, and many conditions exclude damage resulting from deferred maintenance. So have the water resistance tested at the periodic service and keep the service record. Without that evidence, water in the case is a difficult claim, whatever actually happened.
