Declare the competition
- Give the date and the organisation
- Surcharge or separate module
- Also for a single tournament
In dual mogul skiing two skiers go down the mogul piste side by side, against the clock. That is a competition format, and competitions are excluded on virtually every travel and accident policy.

Dual mogul skiing is mogul skiing in the form of a duel: two skiers, two courses, the faster one goes through. The terrain is the same marked mogul piste, but the competition format changes the assessment. Virtually every travel and accident insurance excludes taking part in competitions and in the organised training for them, even where it is a resort tournament or a club championship.
The risk is factually different as well: you are skiing against the clock, tired in the second half of the run, with an opponent in view. Insurers who do cover this do so through additional cover, usually with details of the competition and the level. Without that declaration there is no cover after a fall, not even for the medical expenses.
We compare your travel insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredThree things determine your cover: declaring the competition, the level at which you start and whether you receive a starting fee.
What you do not declare falls under the competition exclusion.
Acceptance depends on the status of the competition.
Have the organisation record the incident in writing.

What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) that you receive before you take out cover.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Two points that determine whether your policy pays after a fall in competition.
The exclusion speaks of taking part in competitions and the training for them, with no lower threshold. A resort duel or a club championship therefore falls under it, as does taking part for starting or prize money. When you apply, the duty of disclosure in Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Codeapplies: if you do not state that you race, the insurer can reduce or refuse the payment under Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code.
If you hit the other skier in the duel, your liability insurance only comes into play where there is a wrongful act (Article 6:162 of the Dutch Civil Code). In a sport and game situation that threshold is higher: participants accept part of the risk from each other, so that not every collision leads to liability. Damage to borrowed or hired equipment in your care also remains excluded usually.
This is what people ask us most.
The terrain is the same, but the format is not. Dual mogul skiing is a timed competition against an opponent, and the competition exclusion applies whatever the level. Free training on the same piste is often simply included.
Yes. The conditions make no distinction between an official competition and a tournament in the ski village. As soon as times are recorded and a ranking is drawn up, the policy speaks of competition.
With some insurers yes, through additional cover with details of the competitions. Ask for written confirmation naming the discipline, and check whether the training sessions are included as well.
Then the organiser can be liable, for example for an unsafe course. Legal expenses insurance (rechtsbijstandverzekering) helps you to pursue that claim. Do not count on the waiver you sign on entry. It often limits your options rather than anything else.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
Have it recorded before the season which starts are included. We set that down with the insurer.
