A ski safari is a multi-day tour from valley to valley or hut to hut. The risk here is not the speed but the distance from help.

On a ski safari you ski on for days, with overnight stops along the way and baggage carried on ahead. If the route stays on prepared pistes, that is usually included on winter sports cover. If a stage crosses unprepared terrain or a glacier, the exclusion for mountaineering comes into view.
The heart of this page is not the fall but the distance from help. Search, rescue and mountain recovery costs in remote areas and any repatriation weigh more heavily here than on an ordinary week’s skiing. Note as well the maximum uninterrupted length of a trip that your annual travel insurance applies.
We compare your travel insurance across dozens of insurers, explain where the real differences lie, and arrange the switch from start to finish — without you having to chase it yourself.

Get coveredAssess the tour stage by stage: terrain, guiding and the way back if you have to stop.
A single off-piste stage can put the whole tour outside cover.
In remote valleys, mountain rescue is the largest cost item.
Baggage carried on ahead follows its own section.
What is covered
| Situation | Standard | With extension |
|---|---|---|
| An organised tour over prepared pistes | Yes | Yes |
| An off-piste stage led by a guide | No | Provided that |
| Glacier trek with rope and crampons | No | Provided that |
| Search and rescue costs in a remote area | Provided that | Yes |
| Repatriation after an injury on the way | Provided that | Yes |
| A tour longer than the maximum trip duration on the policy | No | Provided that |
What is actually covered is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) that you receive in advance.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Two points that make the difference on a multi-day tour.
The standard exclusions remain in place on a safari as well: off-piste mountain sports, air sports, diving below a stated depth and speed contests. A glacier crossing or a descent through unpatrolled terrain falls into the first category, even if the rest of the tour stays on piste.
Annual travel policies have a maximum uninterrupted length of a trip; a long safari can exceed it. If something goes wrong, call the emergency assistance centre before you incur costs, and report the incident within the period set by Article 7:941 of the Dutch Civil Code. Keep the mountain rescue report and all invoices.
This is what people ask us most.
As long as the route runs over open pistes, usually yes. If the tour includes off-piste stages, glacier sections or hut stays at high altitude, notification in advance is needed and the ordinary winter sports module is not enough.
Only if your policy has that section and the activity is not excluded. In remote valleys, rescue is by helicopter. Always call the emergency assistance centre first for a guarantee of payment.
Interruption costs and transport back are not automatically covered by travel cover. Some policies pay for travel days not taken; check that section and keep proof of the booking.
Generally yes, under baggage cover, with a maximum per item and an excess. Carriage by third parties calls for a consignment note or receipt as evidence for a claim.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
Have the route and the rescue cover assessed before you leave. We find out which policy fits.
