In brief

Most visitors are not looking for a product but for a solution to a situation: a scooter is coming into the household, building work is starting, someone is setting up on their own, or there has just been a claim. It is therefore worth starting with what is changing in your case, and only then with the name of a policy. A house move affects your home contents, buildings and liability cover at the same time; a second vehicle affects both your premium and your no-claims years. The full structure of this site is set out in the sitemap.

What this page is not: a quote, a confirmation of cover or an application. Insurance comes into being after the insurer has accepted your application and a policy schedule has been issued. What you fill in or read online changes nothing about that. If you do want to start an application, use the application form. If something is already in place and your situation changes, tell us via notifying a change.

With an existing policy, three routes are worth remembering. For the question of what exactly is insured, go to your policy conditions and the clauses sheet. For an event, go to report a claim. And for the question of who we are, what we do and how we are paid, about us and the service guide are ready for you.

This page deals with one situation. The full overview is on Compare continuous travel insurance.

Personal advice, not a call centre

Why arrange it through Finass Verzekert?

We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.

Independent

We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.

One fixed adviser

You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.

Switching without hassle

We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.

Help with claims

We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.

What to look out for

Four things that make the difference between being helped quickly and having a discussion afterwards.

Start with your situation, not with the product name

The same event can fall under different policies. Water damage in a flat affects the buildings policy of the VvE, the resident's contents and sometimes the neighbour's liability. Describing the situation first and choosing afterwards prevents cover being taken out that does not address the real risk.

Reporting changes is not a formality

Moving house, building work, letting, starting a business or using a vehicle differently are changes in risk. You are obliged to give correct information when entering into the insurance (Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code); if it is not correct, Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code attaches consequences to that for what is paid out on a claim. Telling us takes an email; putting it right afterwards is not possible.

What you will not get here

No binding premium, no retroactive cover and no judgement on a claim that has already occurred without seeing the documents. Nor can we advise on health, life and pension products outside our licence. What we do and do not act as intermediary for is set out in our services guide.

Keep three documents together

The policy schedule with the sums insured and the form of cover, the clause sheet with the requirements that apply personally to you, and the set of conditions with the number shown on the policy schedule. For every question about cover, those are the three documents that provide the answer, in that order.

What does your premium depend on?

  • Your situation and use: personal, business, let or mixed
  • Extent of the cover: which sections you include
  • Sum insured: set at rebuild value, market value or valuation
  • Excess: per event, sometimes per section
  • Prevention and clauses: locks, an alarm and maintenance can reduce the premium
  • Claims history: earlier claims are taken into account for acceptance and rating

Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.

Frequently asked questions

This is what people ask us most.

Can I take out insurance directly here?

Not on this page. You start an application via the application form or via the product page that fits your situation, for example continuous travel insurance. We then set the offerings of the affiliated insurers side by side and send you a proposal. Cover only comes into being once the insurer accepts and you agree.

Where can I find what my policy says?

Your policy schedule states which set of conditions applies, identifiable by a number with a year. You can find that set via the policy conditions page. If you do not know the number, or if we placed the policy for you, we will find the right version. Do not rely on a set you find online at the same insurer: versions differ from year to year.

I have a claim. What is the first step?

Limit further damage and report it as soon as possible via the claim notification page. Article 7:941 of the Dutch Civil Code requires you to report the event as soon as you are reasonably aware of it and to cooperate with the investigation. Do not admit liability to another party. That judgement is for the insurer. Photographs, purchase receipts and any police reference number help the file.

What does the advice cost?

For general insurance we are usually paid out of the premium through commission from the insurer. You then pay no separate charge. In which cases that is different, and which services are charged on a fee basis, is set out in our services guide. It also explains how to submit a complaint and which route is then open to you.
