The online process has four stages: application, acceptance, policy and, if things go wrong, claims handling. In the application stage you enter details about the object to be insured, your situation and your claims history. Those answers form the basis of the contract; under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code you must give them correctly and in full.
The insurer then assesses whether it wants to take on the risk. Many applications run through automated acceptance and are settled within minutes. If something is out of the ordinary, such as a thatched roof, a high value, a business at home or earlier claims, a manual assessment follows and sometimes an additional question, a valuation or an prevention requirement in the policy.
Once the application has been accepted you receive the policy schedule, the conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart). Check those documents straight away: the policy schedule determines what is insured, not the application screen. If something is wrong, report it immediately. See also what we arrange for you online.
We work with dozens of insurers and choose whichever fits your situation best — not whichever pays us the most. That means advice built around you, not around one brand.

AdviceThree moments at which you have to do or check something yourself.
You state what you want to insure and in what circumstances.
The insurer decides whether, and on what conditions, it takes on the risk.
You receive the documents and keep the details up to date.
What is covered
| Situation | Fully digital | With an intermediary |
|---|---|---|
| Completing the application and uploading documents | Yes | Yes |
| Immediate acceptance without further questions | Provided that | Provided that |
| A check that the cover chosen suits you | No | Yes |
| Cancellation of the existing policy arranged | No | Yes |
| Unusual risks such as thatch, a listed building or a high value | No | Provided that |
| An incorrect statement put right before a loss occurs | No | Provided that |
What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) that you receive before taking out the policy.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Two points that determine whether your digital policy holds up when you claim.
What you tick counts as your statement. A forgotten claim from the past, a sum insured that is too low, letting, renting out rooms or business use of a private car: these are not details but risk information. Breach of the duty of disclosure under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code can reduce the payout or cause it to lapse (Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code). If you are unsure whether something is relevant, report it; at most it costs premium.
The channel says nothing about the cover. A policy concluded online likewise does not cover intent or recklessness (Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code), not wear, deferred maintenance or construction defects, nor damage that already existed before the cover began. There is often also a waiting period on legal expenses cover and an exclusion for disputes already running. Report a claim as soon as is reasonably possible, as Article 7:941 of the Dutch Civil Code requires.
This is what people ask us most.
On the start date shown on the policy schedule, not at the moment you click send. As long as the insurer has not accepted the application, there is no cover. If you want cover to start immediately, say so and check the confirmation. When switching, it is wise to let the old policy end only once the new one is settled.
For non-life insurance concluded at a distance there is in principle a statutory cooling-off period within which you can cancel without giving a reason. That period is set out in the policy conditions and in the confirmation you receive. After that the notice period in the conditions applies; most non-life policies can be cancelled on any day after the first year.
An insurer may refuse a risk or accept it only on different conditions, for example where there is a claims-heavy history, an unusual building or a high value. Usually there is another insurer that will take the risk, possibly with a higher excess or a prevention clause. You must report a refusal on any later application.
Yes. The policy schedule, the conditions and the insurance card have the same value digitally as on paper. Keep them somewhere you can find them quickly when you claim, and keep the version of the conditions that applied when you took out the policy. In a dispute it is the conditions applicable at that time that are considered.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
