Policy schedule · clauses · advice or arranging it yourself
The Kona is supplied under the same name with very different drivetrains, and as a result the policy schedule is more often wrong on this model than on a car with one version.

What you have insured is not in the quote and not in the brochure but on the policy schedule. It shows the registration number, the form of cover, the excess, the main driver, the purpose of use and the clauses that apply to your policy. On a model that may be petrol, hybrid or fully electric, it is precisely on that point that things regularly go wrong.
An incorrect entry is not an administrative blemish. The declaration on the application falls under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code. If the policy schedule shows a different car from the one you actually drive, the insurer can rely on that inaccuracy when you claim and reduce the payout; Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code gives it room to do so. When you receive the policy schedule, read it through straight away and report any discrepancies within the period stated in the conditions.
If you take out the policy with advice, the adviser should check whether the cover suits your situation. That duty of care follows from Article 7:401 of the Dutch Civil Code. If you opt for execution only, that check does not take place and you assess yourself whether the cover chosen is right. In both cases the accuracy of your own declaration remains your responsibility.
The structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.
Damage you cause to others.
Causes beyond your control.
Including damage you cause yourself.
What is covered
| Situation | Third-party liability | Third-party, fire and theft | Comprehensive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Damage to the other party | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Theft | No | Yes | Yes |
| Fire and storm | No | Yes | Yes |
| Damage you cause yourself | No | No | Yes |
| Wear and mechanical defects | No | No | No |
| Driving without a valid licence | No | No | No |
This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Check whether the registration number, the drive and the version on the policy schedule match the car on the drive. On this model the variants differ in weight, technology and repair costs, and those differences are built into the rate. If a different variant is shown from the one you drive, report it in writing. Do not wait until you claim, because then the same message is taken as a reaction to the event rather than as a correction.
The policy schedule may contain special provisions: a security requirement, an increased excess for a young driver or an obligation to have repairs carried out within the insurer's network. Such a clause is a condition you have to meet and it takes precedence over the general wording of the conditions. If you do not comply with it, the insurer can refuse to pay, even where the damage itself would simply have been covered.
With advice, the adviser takes stock of your situation and assesses whether the cover suits it; they have to point out exclusions that matter to you. With execution only you make that assessment yourself and cannot afterwards rely on advice that was never given. If you want to know which route you followed, look at the service documents you received when you took out the policy.
A correct policy schedule changes nothing about the standard exclusions: driving without a valid licence, driving under the influence, wear and mechanical defects, and intentionally caused damage under Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code. A change you have not reported also remains at your expense, for example a move, a different purpose of use or a different regular driver. Loose belongings and loads are not part of the car and fall outside own-damage cover, however comprehensive the cover otherwise is.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
This is what people ask us most.
Report it in writing and ask for a corrected policy schedule. The entry helps determine the rate and the assessment after a claim, and on this model the variants are technically far apart. If you do not correct it, the insurer can reduce the payout under Article 7:930 of the Dutch Civil Code. A correction before a claim is an administrative step. Afterwards it is an argument.
A clause on the policy schedule takes precedence over the general conditions, because that provision has been included specially for your policy. The conditions supplement what is not dealt with there. So always read both and pay particular attention to requirements about security, the excess and repairs. If you do not comply with a clause, damage that is covered in itself can still be refused.
You take out the policy without advice. There is no check on whether the cover suits your situation and you are not pointed to exclusions that matter to you. If the cover turns out afterwards not to fit, you cannot rely on advice that was not given. If you are unsure about the form of cover, clauses or purpose of use, choose a route with advice.
Everything on the policy schedule that changes: a different address, a different purpose of use, a different regular driver, a substantially different annual mileage or modifications to the car. A second car in the household can be relevant too. Reporting takes little effort and prevents the insurer from falling back on the details the policy was originally drawn up with when you claim.
