The insurance that comes with a credit card derives from a group policy held by the card issuer: you use the cover, but you are not the policyholder.

Many cards come with a small package of cover: travel and cancellation cover, purchase protection, sometimes the excess on a hire car or accident cover while using public transport. That cover attaches to the card, not to you. If you cancel the card or the issuer changes the conditions, your cover changes with it and you have no say in it.
Two features determine how much practical use it is. First, paying with the card is a condition of cover: anything you settle another way falls outside the policy. Second, the cover is almost always secondary, which means your own travel insurance takes precedence and the card cover at most tops it up.
We do not issue credit cards. You apply for those through your bank or card issuer. We do set your card conditions alongside your own personal insurance to see where you are paying twice and where there is a gap.
A mortgage, loan or investment often touches your insurance too. We look at the bigger picture and point you to the right specialist whenever something falls outside insurance itself.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Most card cover applies only if the trip or the purchase was actually paid for with that card, often even the full cost of the trip. If you pay the deposit with the card and the rest by bank transfer, there is sometimes no cover. Bookings paid with loyalty points, vouchers or in someone else's name are also excluded.
If you have an annual travel policy, you report the claim there and the card cover adds little. Conversely, it is risky to cancel your own policy: card cover comes with age limits, a maximum trip length, low luggage limits and usually no cover for winter sports, diving or other special activities.
The card issuer is the policyholder under a group contract. You cannot buy extra cover, increase a sum insured or have a clause removed. Changes are made unilaterally. Do report a claim within the stated period: under Article 7:941 of the Dutch Civil Code you must report an event as soon as possible, and reporting late can cost you the payout.
If an employee travels on the business card and is injured, you remain liable as employer under Article 7:658 of the Dutch Civil Code and, for road accidents during working hours, under the standard of Article 7:611 of the Dutch Civil Code. The card cover is travel and accident cover and not liability insurance. Loss of business equipment and fraud by an employee are not covered either.
This is what people ask us most.
Usually not. Card cover is limited in its sums insured, has a maximum trip length and an age limit, and is secondary to your own policy. For short city breaks within Europe it may be enough. For longer trips, travel outside Europe or trips with expensive luggage it almost always falls short. Compare the conditions before you cancel anything.
That depends on the conditions. Some issuers require the full cost of the trip to have been paid with the card, others are satisfied with a deposit or part of the amount. If you pay with loyalty points or a voucher, there is usually no cover. Keep the statements: when you claim you have to be able to show payment with that card.
No. The card provides at most travel and accident cover for the cardholder. Your liability as employer for injury to an employee runs via Article 7:658 of the Dutch Civil Code and, for road accidents during working hours, via Article 7:611 DCC. That requires business liability insurance, possibly supplemented by employees' motor accident cover.
Yes. We request the insurance conditions for your card and set them alongside your own travel, cancellation and contents cover. That shows where you are paying twice and where a gap arises. You apply for the credit card itself through your bank or card issuer. We do not broker that, because it falls outside our licence.
Every situation is different. For these situations we have a separate page.
