Almost always worthwhile
Liability. Not compulsory, but personal injury is calculated over the whole of the victim's life and runs into hundreds of thousands or millions. The premium is a few tens of euros a year.
Buildings if you own a home; that is your largest asset and your lender requires it.
Income if you depend on your work. For the self-employed, disability insurance (AOV); for employees, a top-up to the WIA.
Usually worthwhile
Home contents. Work out what it costs to buy everything again; for an average family that is soon over forty thousand euros.
Legal expenses if you run a risk of disputes with a landlord, employer or contractor.
Depending on your situation
Travel if you travel more than three weeks a year; valuables if you own more than the sub-limit on your contents policy; term life if there are people who depend on your income.
What you can skip
Small product warranties and cover for amounts you can comfortably afford to lose. Anyone who can easily bear an excess of five hundred euros does not need cover for losses of two hundred.
