There are a few levers that really make a difference. Most of them lie not in switching but in what you insure.

Look at your cover first
The biggest saving lies in the question whether comprehensive cover still fits the value of your car. Once the market value falls below about three to four times your annual premium plus the excess, third-party, fire and theft is often more logical.
That can save hundreds of euros a year. On a financed car it is not possible: the lender usually requires comprehensive cover.
Excess and mileage
A a higher excess lowers the premium noticeably. Choose an amount you can spare without difficulty after a claim.
If you drive little, declare a realistic mileage . Declaring it too low is not a saving but a risk: after a claim an additional premium can follow or a partial payment.
Your no-claims years
They determine a large part of your premium. Check in Roy-data whether the number recorded is right; errors do occur, for instance a claim wrongly recorded as an at-fault claim.
On a small claim, paying yourself can be cheaper than claiming, because the loss of no-claims years works through for years.
What does not work
Giving incorrect information to bring the premium down — a different address, an older regular driver, fewer kilometres. That is an incorrect declaration under Article 7:928 of the Dutch Civil Code and costs you your cover after a claim.
