Continuous business travel insurance is a form of contract: the cover is in place for a year and automatically goes with every business trip you make in that year. You do not have to report anything and there is no application for each trip. Against that there is one hard limit that appears on every continuous policy: the maximum continuous length of each trip.
That limit is stated on your policy schedule. If a trip lasts longer, not only does the excess period fall outside the cover, but you run the risk that the whole trip is uninsured from day one. If a project is extended while you are there, report it during the trip and not afterwards. For stays that consistently exceed that limit, an expatriate or secondment cover the right form.
Beyond that the contractual side counts: start date, automatic renewal and notice period. The cover generally starts when you leave your home or business address and ends on your return, even where the trip begins within the Netherlands.
The structure of the cover in three parts, with an overview per situation below.
Costs and repatriation outside the Netherlands.
Business equipment is subject to sub-limits.
If the trip does not go ahead or is cut short.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Taking out cover without advice? Then read what execution only means for you.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Continuous means continuous in time, not unlimited per trip. The policy schedule states a maximum number of consecutive days that one trip may last. If that is exceeded, the insurer can treat the trip as uncovered in its entirety. Count the days from departure to return, including weekends spent there. If you know in advance that a job will overrun, have a temporary increase recorded before you leave.
Most continuous policies let the cover start as soon as the insured leaves his home or business address and end on his return there. An accident on the way to Schiphol therefore falls within it. What does not fall within it is the period before the start date of the contract: a trip that was already under way when the policy started is not covered, not even for the remaining part.
A continuous policy usually renews automatically for a year and can then be cancelled at any time with one month's notice. If you switch, let the new policy start on the day the old one ends. A gap of a few days coincides exactly with the trip you forgot, and cover cannot be arranged after the event. We arrange the cancellation when you switch.
Not covered are: trips exceeding the maximum consecutive trip duration, stays that are in fact a move or emigration, and travel to destinations subject to a negative travel advisory. If you only report a claim after the end of the contract year, the insurer can rely on the notification deadline in Article 7:941 of the Dutch Civil Code where its interests have been harmed as a result.
Insurers weigh these details differently. That is why comparing pays off.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
The questions we are asked most often about this.
The insurer can then argue that the trip did not meet the description in the policy and treat the whole trip as uninsured, including the first days. If you notice while away that it is overrunning, report it to us or to the insurer straight away. An extension recorded in advance is generally possible; putting it right afterwards is not.
Usually from leaving your home or business address until your return there. The journey to the airport or the border is therefore included. Check this on the policy schedule, because the occasional policy only starts the cover when the Dutch border is crossed, and that makes a difference in an accident on the way.
After the first contract period a continuous policy can generally be cancelled at any time with one month's notice. Within the first period that is usually only possible on a premium increase or a change in the conditions. Let the new cover follow on from the end date, so that no uninsured days arise.
No. As soon as the stay exceeds the maximum consecutive trip duration on the policy schedule, this is no longer the right form and the insurer can treat the whole period as uninsured. With long-term work abroad your social security position also changes, and sometimes your health insurance obligation in the Netherlands. In that case look at secondment and long-term stays.
