The Corvette has a plastic body and a removable roof panel, and after a claim both raise a question that does not arise on an ordinary car.

The Corvette's body is not steel but glass fibre reinforced plastic, and on the later generations composite panels on an aluminium or steel frame. That changes claims repair completely. Panels are not beaten out but sanded, filled, bonded or replaced, and that is work for a firm that does it regularly. Damage that would stay limited on a steel car works out higher here than the photographs suggest.
The second characteristic is the roof. Many versions have a removable panel that lies loose in the car or at home on a rack. As long as it is fitted, it belongs to the vehicle. If it lies loose at home, the question is whether your car policy or your home contents insurance is engaged. Read how your conditions treat a removed component before anything happens to it.
Third, the use: most Dutch examples are driven only in dry weather and stand in storage the rest of the year. That brings the premium down but calls for agreements about mileage and storage. For the wider questions about this make and imports, read Insuring a Chevrolet.

This overview is general in nature and is not personal advice. What is actually covered, including exclusions, limits and the excess, is set out in the policy conditions and the insurance card (verzekeringskaart) of the insurer; you receive both before you take out cover. Insurers weigh these details differently. That is where your saving is.
We look at the terms as well as the premium, and stay your point of contact when there is a claim.
We are not tied to one insurer and compare on the basis of an objective analysis of several companies.
You call or email someone who knows your file. No menu options, no changing call centres.
We cancel your old policy and align the start date, so you are never a day without cover.
We report the claim and monitor how it is handled. In urgent cases you can reach us on the emergency line.
Customers rate our service on four aspects: personal service, service delivery, availability and the outcome. The reviews are collected and published by NH1816 and come from customers who have actually taken out a policy with Finass Advies B.V. or reported a claim.
Four points that make the difference between a policy that pays out and one that does not.
Plastic panels crack and delaminate rather than dent. Repair calls for bonding with prescribed curing times, for sanding and for colour matching that is harder on composite than on steel. Not every repairer does this work. When reporting a claim, ask for a repairer with experience of this material and accept a longer turnaround. A quick repair done the wrong way becomes your problem at the next claim.
A targa panel that is fitted falls under the vehicle. If it lies loose in the garage and is damaged or taken, car policies often point to the home contents cover, while the home contents insurer sees it as a car part. Avoid that conversation: ask in writing in advance how your insurer treats a removed component and, if necessary, have it recorded as an accessory on the policy schedule.
Few Corvettes are driven here and prices vary widely per generation and version. A market value assessment after the event is therefore unpredictable. A valuation report from a recognised expert fixes the amount in advance and is binding under Article 7:960 of the Dutch Civil Code as long as it is valid. Have the generation, version, originality, odometer reading and the state of the interior recorded in the report.
Limited use goes with a limited mileage on the policy schedule and locked storage. Outside the cover remain: taking part in competitions, sprint races and use on a circuit or drag strip; wear and mechanical failure, including the effects of standing idle for a long time; damage caused intentionally or through wilful recklessness (Article 7:952 of the Dutch Civil Code); and loose parts or accessories not stated on the policy.
Parts come from the US, with delivery times that considerably lengthen the repair time.
Not every company applies the same policy for this make. With unusual versions, the question is not what it costs but who will accept it.
This is what people ask us most.
On the older generations usually you can, provided you meet the conditions: a limited mileage, locked storage, another car for everyday use and a minimum age for the driver. For the younger generations you are more likely to end up on an ordinary own-damage policy, whether or not on a valued amount. The line between the two forms differs per insurer; have your situation assessed in several places.
Fitted, it belongs to the car and falls under own-damage cover. Stored loose, the position is less clear: many car policies cover only what is on or attached to the vehicle, while a home contents insurer may treat it as a vehicle part. Ask both insurers in writing in advance how they see this and, if necessary, have the panel recorded as an accessory on the policy schedule.
Yes, if the damage falls under the cover. The insurer usually determines at which firm the repair takes place, and with this material in particular it makes sense to propose a specialist yourself. Put that forward when you report the claim. Reckon on a longer turnaround than with steel. So check in advance how many days of replacement transport your policy pays for.
Not for the cover, as long as the vehicle has been approved in the Netherlands and meets the requirements checked at registration. If you change the lighting or other parts yourself afterwards, that is a change you report; modifications that are not permitted can amount to an exclusion after a claim. Keep the import documents and the inspection report with your policy papers.
