How much does Home Insurance cost?

The costs of home insurance depend on your personal situation. Your premium depends on, among other things:

Your  family situation

Do you live in a house with more people? Then there is a greater chance of damage to your home. Especially if you have children, accidents can easily happen. For example, if they drop something that damages your floor. With this insurance you can choose who you want to insure. The insurance then applies to all insured persons.

Your  home

When determining the premium, the insurer considers, among other things, whether you want to insure a detached or terraced house. What the size of the house is and the year of construction. And an older home is more susceptible to damage than a new-build home. This is because different rules now apply, for example for fire safety. Your home insurance may therefore cost more.

Is the home also insured if I rent through Airbnb?

Renting out your home to private individuals via Airbnb, for example, is also insured. You must live in the home that you rent out or where you rent out rooms. You may rent out your home for a maximum of 60 overnight stays per calendar year. After these 60 overnight stays, your home is no longer insured. You are not insured against theft and vandalism by your tenant. Theft and vandalism by people other than your tenant are only insured after a burglary in your home.

Is building insurance mandatory?

It is not legally required to take out home insurance.

The bank may require that you take out building insurance. Your house is collateral for the bank that granted the mortgage. Does the bank not require you to take out building insurance?

Then it can still be wise to have this. Damage to your home can have many financial consequences. Think of fire, water damage or storm damage. With Building Insurance you are insured for this. Have you bought an apartment? Then the building insurance has usually already been arranged through the Owners' Association (VvE). You can ask your homeowners' association about this.

Am I insured while working from home?
