Frequently Asked Questions

You are legally obliged to continue paying at least 70% of the salary for 2 years. In many collective labor agreements this is higher: often 100% in year 1 and 70-90% in year 2. In the event of insufficient reintegration, UWV can impose a wage sanction of up to 1 additional year.
The premium is between 1.5% and 5.5% of the total wage bill, depending on industry, absenteeism percentage, deductible period and coverage percentage. Average €220-€315 per employee per year.
A special variant where you are completely relieved: continued payment of wages, case manager, reintegration and Gatekeeper Guarantee. The premium is more stable due to the solidarity principle (absenteeism counts less).
This law (since 2002) obliges employer and employee to work together on reintegration. In the event of non-compliance, UWV can impose a wage sanction: up to 1 year of additional wage payment (3 years in total).
No, absenteeism insurance is not legally required. You are, however, obliged to have a basic contract with an occupational health and safety service. Without insurance, you bear the entire financial risk of absenteeism due to illness.
This is the period in which you continue to pay your wages before the insurance pays out. Choice of 10 working days to 52 weeks. Shorter period = higher premium, but lower deductible.
If you follow the advice of the case manager/insurer and UWV still imposes a wage sanction, the insurer will reimburse this additional continued payment of wages. This way you are protected against unexpected costs.
Optionally, you can also insure employer's costs (holiday pay, pension, social contributions). This is approximately 20-25% on top of the gross salary. Check your policy or request an adjustment.
