Your Truck Professionally Insured
Every truck owner in the Netherlands is according to the Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance Act (WAM) obliged to take out at least third party liability insurance. This applies to all vehicles over 3,500 kg, from rigids to tractor-trailer combinations.
In addition to the mandatory third-party liability coverage, you can opt for: Limited Airframe (also theft, fire, storm and window damage) or Full Casco/All Risk (including personal damage in the event of an accident). At Finass Verzekert we compare truck insurance policies from specialized transport insurers.
Whether you own driver you run a small transport company or manage a large fleet: we will find the best combination of premium, coverage and conditions for your situation. Including semi-trailer, trailer and additional transport insurance.

💰 Premium indication Truck insurance 2025
Average premium depending on coverage, weight and type of transport:
| Coverage | Light (7.5t) | Heavy (40t) |
|---|---|---|
| WA (legally required) | €50-€100/month | €100-€200/month |
| Limited Airframe | €100-€200/month | €200-€350/month |
| Full Casco (All Risk) | €150-€300/month | €300-€500/month |
| Semi-trailer Casco (separate) | €30-€100/month | |
* Premium depends on weight, current value, type of transport, damage history, deductible and annual kilometers. Choice: fixed premium or no-claim discount up to 75%.
🚚 Insure semi-trailer & trailer
Your semi-trailer or trailer does not need to be separately insured; damage to third parties is settled via the tractor. You can insure the semi-trailer hull:
Please note: In some countries (including Italy, Spain) a separate WA for the semi-trailer is mandatory. Check this for international transport.
📋 Carrier liability (CMR/AVC)
Do you transport goods from others? Then you as a carrier are liable for damage to these goods during transport. You can arrange this with a carrier liability insurance:
Also insure container/trailer liability for rented trailers and containers. Coverage during loading/unloading, refrigerated transport, incorrect delivery and storage possible.
📊 Truck Insurance Premium Factors
The premium of your truck insurance is determined by:
- → Weight (TMM): Heavier trucks = higher premium
- → Current value: Value of the truck
- → Type of transport: Construction, distribution, international, ADR
- → Damage history: Claim-free years or claim history
- → Deductible: Higher ER = lower premium
- → Annual kilometers: Fewer km = lower premium
- → Premium choice: Fixed premium or no-claim accrual
- → Fleet: Multiple vehicles = fleet discount
🛡️ Additional Transport Coverage
Expand your truck insurance with important additional coverage:
Include insurance with loading/unloading crane: often no no-claim loss in case of crane damage. Breakdown assistance including repatriation of truck, trailer, cargo and driver.
⚠️ Please note: Sistercar clause
The sistercar clause means that damage between two vehicles of the same owner is not always covered, especially in the event of an accident on your own property. Check your policy conditions for this, especially if you have multiple vehicles.
- ! Damage between private vehicles is often excluded
- ! Particularly problematic on our own turf
- ! Check the conditions for fleet insurance
Own Driver & Self-Employed Driver
Especially for self-employed drivers and small transport companies (up to 5 trucks), there are package insurance policies that efficiently cover all important risks:
| Insurance | Covers | Advice |
|---|---|---|
| Truck insurance | Damage to/with vehicle | Obliged |
| Carrier liability | Damage to third party cargo | Essential |
| Container/trailer liability | Rented trailers/containers | When renting |
| Corporate liability (AVB) | Damage to third parties by company | Highly recommended |
| Traffic legal aid | Legal assistance in conflicts | Recommended |
| Freight transport insurance | Own goods during transport | With your own goods |

💡 Tips for Transport Entrepreneurs
- ✓ Fixed premium or no-claim: Choose fixed if there is a high risk of damage, no-claim if there is little damage
- ✓ Weigh your own risk: Higher ER = lower premium, but higher costs in the event of damage
- ✓ Fleet insurance: Fleet discount for multiple vehicles
- ✓ Loading/unloading crane separately: Often no no-claims loss in case of crane damage
- ✓ International transport: Check trailer WA requirements per country
- ✓ CMR/AVC coverage: Essential when transporting goods to third parties
- ✓ Security: Better security = lower theft premium
- ✓ Zero Emission: Special coverage for electric trucks
