A Moped car (also called 45 km car, microcar or minicar) is a compact vehicle with up to 45 km/h. According to Dutch law, a microcar falls under mopeds - that is why a Third party insurance mandatory.
Moped cars are popular with seniors who can no longer renew their driving license, and young people from 16 years old who are still too young for a driving license B. On their own driving license AM are you allowed to drive yet?

📋 Driving License & Age
For a moped you have: driving license AM required (moped driving license). Minimum age: 16 years. Theory exams are allowed from the age of 15.5.
Do you have driving license B or motorcycle license A? Then AM is automatically credited. Expired driver's license? You can apply for a new AM at the municipality without an exam (if B obtained after July 1, 1985).

The premium for a moped insurance is: higher for young people (16-24 years) and sometimes also for seniors (75+). This is due to a statistically higher risk and fewer claim-free years. It too own risk may be higher. Always compare several insurers – some specialize in certain age groups.
