📜 The Founders: Rolls & Royce
The Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls (1877-1910) was an aristocrat, pioneer and car dealer in London. Sir Handry Royce (1863-1933) was a brilliant engineer who built his first car in 1904 – the Royce 10 H.P. – after improving a French Decauville.
on May 4, 1904 they met at the Midland Hotel in Manchester. Rolls stated: "I have met the greatest andgineer in the World." on March 15, 1906 Rolls-Royce Limited was officially registered.
The legendary one was born in 1907 Silver Ghost, door journalisten bestempeld als "The Best Car in the World". Sir Henry Royce's laatste 16 levensjaren bracht hij door in West Wittering – slechts enkele kilometers van het huidige Goodwood.
The Spirit of Ecstasy
The iconic ornament on every Rolls-Royce bonnet was introduced in 1911 introduced. The statue is based on an actress and model Eleanor Thornton and symbolizes elegance, speed and ecstasy. The Spirit of Ecstasy was designed by sculptor Charles Sykes.
