📜 The Founders: Rolls & Royce

The Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls (1877-1910) was an aristocrat, pioneer and car dealer in London. Sir Handry Royce (1863-1933) was a brilliant engineer who built his first car in 1904 – the Royce 10 H.P. – after improving a French Decauville.

The Spirit of Ecstasy

The iconic ornament on every Rolls-Royce bonnet was introduced in 1911 introduced. The statue is based on an actress and model Eleanor Thornton and symbolizes elegance, speed and ecstasy. The Spirit of Ecstasy was designed by sculptor Charles Sykes.
