🔱 Il Tridente: The Trident of Neptune
The Maserati logo, the trident (Il Tridente), was entered 1926 designed by Mario Maserati, the artistic brother who didn't build cars but did create the most recognizable emblem in the car world.
The inspiration came from the Fountain of Neptune in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna, the statue of the Roman sea god. The trident symbolizes strength, energy and speed – features that perfectly match the sporty character of Maserati.
The colors red and blue are derived from the flag of Bologna, the brand's hometown. Despite numerous changes in ownership, the trident has never disappeared from the logo.
📍 From Bologna to Modena
Maserati was on December 1, 1914 founded by the brothers Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto Maserati at Via de' Pepoli 1a in the heart of Bologna. The first activity was the production of spark plugs for aircraft engines during WWI.
In 1926 the first real Maserati was built: the Tipo 26, named after the year of construction. Alfieri Maserati immediately won the 1.5 liter class in the Targa Florio. After his death in 1932, the brothers sold the company 1937 to entrepreneur Adolfo Orsi, which moved its headquarters to MoThena – where it is still located today.
